Great looking trailer I saw the other day. Guess I haven't been paying attention to much but the premise for this movie seems to something that is currently happening to some of the soldiers abroad.

Crazy that i had never heard of it to that point. In either case I think the movie looks really good, and seems to have a pretty strong cast..

anyone else seen this?

Looks good, cast is nice. I like the topic.

Looks good and has a really good premise behind it.

Looks extremely retarded. Glamorizes war.

I'd rather see a realistic movie made about the Iraq war in about 10 years, when the bullshit "support the troops" disappears and is replaced by an existential, depressing atmosphere.

How did that clip glamorize war at all. The main point is that he's ****ing sick of war, and that he's trying to escape another tour. Tell me the minute / second in the trailer where it implies war is glamorous. Did you even watch the damn thing.

And also, go watch Jarhead.

Music makes it seem really lame.

Agree 100%. The first song sounded like it would fit more with a movie like Shoot 'em up, the one at the end was just lame soft-rock or whatever. To me, the whole movie looks kinda corny. I agree with theotherguy that a more realistic movie focusing on the actual war events would be cool tho.

I mean the music is part of the marketing machine, I think it's poor to use that as a reflection of a movie like this. Stop-Loss is a real thing, and for some people (myself included) had no knowledge of it before now IMO.

I have zero problem with movies being told from soldiers perspective. I'd rather have have multiple voices telling me about the ongoings there than just what the government reports.

"YOU FOUGHT FOR AMERICA"

"YOU FOUGHT FOR FREEDOM"

"YOU FOUGHT FOR FAMILY"

etc.

Not to get technical, but there's a lot of clips where the men are all dressed nice standing in front of the american flag, they're receiving medals, they're fighting for our country and not losing limbs or being maimed in some other form or fashion.

I'm not a big war movie guy, and I'm not saying at times it doesn't do it, but saving private ryan had a lot of nice non-glamorizing parts to it. Like storming Normandy how that entire boat was machined gunned down before they even took a step forward.

Maybe that's what he was talking about...

It's put across as 'YOU FOUGHT...' (as in, he did) because it's what the guy no longer wants to do. From what I could make out from the trailer, it seems to be based around soldiers (or the main character in particular) not looking beyond the box that is the glamourized war machine, then coming to terms with how dreadful it really is. Looks to me like it's playing against patriotic movies by centering the plot around a soldier who completly goes against having followed it beforehand.

Or something.

I think people are getting too caught up with the trailers (which are intended to draw response) and what the actual premise of the film is. The premise is a solider dealing with actually being stop-lossed. It's not a propaganda film, and highly doubt this director would allow it to become anything she didn't want it to be.

bump, its screening at SXSW (WHICH I MIGHT BE AT!) so im sure there will be some buzz around that.
