For those of use that bought HL2 5-CD edition, I just read in another thread that there will be a stand-alone edition that you can purchase through Steam separately of DoD. I have HL1 that I haven't bothered to install on Steam. If I install it on Steam, will I get Half-Life: Source and Day of Defeat free since I have the origionals? Or must I buy it separately?

I dont think you'd get hl1: Source through having the origional hl1, so no :D

If you bought the 5 cd edition, you get: HL2, CS: S
If you bought the collectors DVD edition, you get: HL2, CS: S, HL1: S
If you bought the gold edition from steam, you get: HL2, CS: S, HL1: S, DOD: S

Not sure about the others.
I think all of this info is on valves site somewhere.

I personally think Valve stinged us with the retail versions. They are more expensive and have less in them. Especially the collectors edition. I spell HL2: R I P O F F

Retail = Hl2 Cs Source
Retail gold edition = hl2, cssource, some hl2 merchandise and Hl:s

Bronze steam edition = Hl2 & cs Source
Silver Steam Edition = cs, dod, hl1, hl2, cs:s, hl:s dod:s, and tons of other hl1 expansions
gold Steam Edition = cs, dod, hl1, hl2, cs:s, hl:s dod:s, and tons of other hl1 expansions and a hat and some other little halflife merchandise.

Blah, why did they have to have all these different versions?
What happened to just plain ol' "Half-Life 2" ?!

Steam is too cool for school. Nuff Said.
thats the main reason why DoD:S isnt in the retail, because Activision is the publisher not vivendi. If you we VU, why would u sell someone elses game for them? Steam however, since it is not owned by VU can sell DoD in packages or sperately

Have you had your head in the sand for the past year?

Valve makes $7 profit out of every retail version sold, which is just the left over scraps of profit that Vivendi throws at them, and since the retail version is made by Vivendi it can only contain Vivendi products.

Valve makes $30 profit out of every steam version sold, it contains whatever the hell Gabe wants to put in it, and since it hasn't got anything to do with Vivendi, it means Activision products like DOD can go into the bonus content too.

Valve doesn't want you to buy the retail version, it was legally forced into making them available.
