Strange Face on Advisor Picture

I don't normaly sign up to forums, but after seeing this during a random rummage through episode 2 gcf, I found the most strange thing ever. There is a Jpeg picture of a Advisor and on this picture is a Face. I'm not sure if this has been posted before. If it has then I appologise.

I had to adjust the levels abit to show it more clearly. If you think i did this, then those of you capable of searching, go see for yourself.

This is new my friend, and this could be something.
Wonderful first post if I do say so myself.

What I think I'm trying to say here is, I have absolutley nothing to contribute as to the speculation behind this most ominous phenomenon of apparitions behind the Advisor's model.

Well that was a whole lot of nothing.

Thanks for replying. Yeah, at first I looked and thought it was just Jpeg Artifacts then I looked closer then faintly seen some eyes... so I popped it in photoshop and adjusted it. I can't belive it myself.

I'm not sure if this is a watermark from one of the modelers or something relating to Half-Life itself.
 
Wait, where's the face? The only thing I noticed that I hadn't before is the strange symbols around its "skin".
EDIT: Oh, the background. Wait a sec... Cave Johnson is an Advisor!?
 
It looks somewhat like Eli.
maybe forshadowing his fate?

Edit : It could possibly be the Gman too judging by the hair , what little of it we can see.
 
He looks more like Cohrt.

Rampant speculation; Eli's been turned into an advisor... Or... An advisor absorbed Eli's mind so he's not really dead... Or... Eli's ghost is haunting the advisor that killed him?
Edit: Also... Who is Cohrt?

I doubt it is Eli, the picture has glasses on. Probably some new Leader of the combine, second in command possibly.

I'm not entirely sure to be honest. A part of me thinks that it could be a watermark, but another part of me thinks why would a developer ad his face to it... since theres literaly no point really.

It does look a little like that other scientist you posted, but not quite on the mark. As for eli, I doubt it becuase he's clearly wearing specs (rounded frames by the looks) and again which makes me think that its not a developer, hardly anyone i know wears specs like that now... they're kinda out of fashion.

Thanks to everyone for thier thoughts... I would like to get to the bottom of it to be honest and find out who that is.

Na, it looks nothing like Gordon...

I agree that its someone with glasses, but the bags under the eyes are too heavy to be Corht or Kleiner, and the Cranium is somewhat Robust-looking (more so than the gman)

What I don't understand is why there is a jpeg in the models folder ;)
 
Maybe it was an eary version of magnusson. Im most likely wrong but its a possibility.

According to a guy named "Ryx", he emailed valve about the picture and here is the "apparent" responce from valve:

Thanks mate, I've just seen a few more emails from valve about that picture and it's got me thinking also.

email from Ted Backman:

This image of the advisor is quick depiction of that sort of encounter."
 
Thats a bit of a random thing to show dont you think? Maybe its some one we will see in the future of the story.
 
I hope so, because I think this kind of idea is pretty cool.

It's the model picture user: "test" posted on the first page of this thread. According to the book: raising the bar, cohrt was the origonal model to be played by kleiner, but valve changed their minds when they spotted a better person in a lift of all locations to replace kleiner.
 
Didn't they use the Cohrt model as one of the hostages in CS: S?

Isn't that the advisor pic that interrupts the transmission Alyx makes to Magnusson in the radio tower in Episode Two? I'll have to have a look, I'm intrigued now...

The picture's really interesting and so is this, is he saying that the face in the background is like a flashback from an Advisor attack? Is he trying to mess with our minds? :p
 
I think mind rape also constitutes messing with our heads.
 
Some people thought he looked like Alan Greenspan, so I tried to my best to replace his face.

I still kinda think it's someone else. Alan Greenspans nose is more bulbous.
 
The image is becoming even more creepy :D

I wonder can it really be just some JPG error, there's always them, but how does it look so much like a face of a man?

Thanks, but I highly doubt it's just random Jpeg artifacts. They usually occur mostly around fine gradients on pictures, including digital video. This photo had an overlay of a mans face and it was compressed so badly it gathered jpeg artifacts. If you use a program with Jpeg-artifact-removal, you could take away most of the artifacts and still you would have a clear face.

I still think this is a man rather than a woman... I guess it's just my instinct when I first looked at it.

It almost looks like a face from an obey poster, mayby im just messing up.
 
maybe valve just put a random face there because they know it will drive us insane trying to figure out what it means.
 
To me it looks like Eli, wouldn't it be cool if that image was always there, I mean, in the Half Life 2 directory and we never noticed it? And when we asked who was going to die and how, the answer was right under our noses.

Or could it be old version of Morgan Freeman?

It's not Eli, and unfortunately this isn't new either. I've having difficulty finding the thread back it was discussed not long after the Half-life 2 release. Thus, this picture has been sitting in the .gcf's for a good few years. This means that certain events with Eli and Combine Advisors in Episode 2 are well AFTER this picture was created.

As said above we got the same feedback from Valve about this picture being one of those random flashes of confusing pictures advisors seem to cause us to see when we are in their near vicinity.
