Hello, I was just wondering if anyone can recommend me a strategy game sort of like say Civilization but with real world countries, preferarly modern.
I'd really love being able to play as China and invade the US and such.
It can be DOS too, thanks for any tips.

If you want to be China and pwn US then get C&C: Generals.

Sorry but I'm not after a RTS "small-scale" game, I don't like having to control individual units, I prefer strategy games that uses say hexes, like Panzer General and such, but I'm looking for one with a much wider scope.
Sorta like a modern day-version of HOI.
Thanks anyway tho.

well i dunno if you'd like this but silent hunter 3 maybe?

not a huge scale like you say, you just ctrl a u-boat.

Have you played Act of War? great game maybe not exactly what your looking for but give it a try

I've already played both of those :P
Yes they're great games but not what I'm looking for in this case, but thanks anyway guys, just keep'em coming :)

Victoria: An Empire Under the Sun perhaps?

Poker might due it for ya.
That's like the best joke ever.
Any more people with SERIOUS replies?
Btw thanks for the tip Loke, that game looks good :D

Nah sorry, already played and finished that.

And I prefer to get some modern based ones.

Imperial Glory, it's like Rome: Total War but set in the Napoleonic times.

Raise of Nations, its like a real time version of civilization 2.

Its not exactly what you are looking for but Sid Meiers Alpha Centauri is the best TBS I have ever played.

Ok guys, he asked for something that WASN'T an RTS! I spent some time looking through IGN and Amazon and the only game I came up with was Superpower 2, which got a horrible 4.5 from IGN. That was the only game that I found with modern scenarios. Other than that, all of the games seemed to be based on historical wars.

Yeah I tried SuperPower. Very difficult to get into. Not that great, but serviceable I guess. That's the only wide scope turn based strategy game I can think of that would be able to fill your needs, albeit not exactly.

Played both the first and second SuperPower, they sucked imo :(

Oh well, thanks anyway guys, your tips has been real helpful.:)

yea i was just about to say superpower 2. its not controlling units, but more map based strategy. pc gamer didnt give it that bad of a rating at all, give it a try i say

edit: sorry, just saw that you played superpower 1 and 2

You probably have played it..but Starcraft.
You wont need a new computer, you can pick it up for about 10 - 20 bucks. It has one of the strongest communties(On friday nights it can reach 150,000 which is over half the b.net population)
It is easy to learn, hard to master.
Tons of custom maps, that pretty much have anything you can imagine..
From massing out guys to immature stuff(...heh..) to diplomacy style maps to civilization style maps to pretty much..whatever you can imagine.
It's one amazing game that pretty much..left me playing it for 5 years.

Anyway if you wanna be China and Invade the U.S. try one of the many "World Diplomacy" maps on starcraft. A map modeled after the world in which you can use tactics and unique specials to take over more cities(Generating more cash).
Starcraft hell...RPG maps. Some which are in there own made up world and are extremely oringal and others based off of Diablo 2 or other games.

Anyway Starcraft will do you much good.

he asked for something that WASN'T an RTS!
No, he asked for a non small scale RTS.

Anyway sorry for that post earlier..wasn't exactly in a..good state of mind.
Though you probably have Starcraft, there is a chance you don't. Also starcraft has 3 of the most diverse races, yet some of the most balanced gameplay in all of gaming history.
These 3 races...are absolutly nothing like one another. In how they build units and buildings. One warps in buildings and units, others actually evolve into buildings and produce larva to evolve into more units. Others build stuff ^_^.

Anyway Starcraft is one of the most played RTS's ever made, and still has numbers that can pass up Warcraft 3. Starcraft is by far one of the most played online RTS's to date, if not the most played one..possibly only behind Warcraft 3.

Yes Starcraft - if you love sci fi RTS then you will certainly love this.
