Stuck and Ready to Give Up and Become a Combine

Hi,
I'm in "Follow Freeman" and have made it to the point I've been told to head for the statue with the horse on it. After going into an underground garage with some Combine in it I went up a rubble ramp and made a left turn and found a tunnel dug in the center of the street with the fire on one end. I continued around another left hand corner and was chased by a Strider that appeared, I ran and jumped into a hole in the street leading to another section of the underground parking lot. After going through the lot and up a ramp I'm now in a 3 story structure that is heavily damaged. The Strider was patrolling around the outside of the building and I managed to take him out, but I can't spot where to go to in this building.
I continually get replenished with Squadmembers and have killed a few hundred Combines that just seem to keep on coming from windows on the second floor across from my position. I think I'm supposed to get across and to the next floor, but I've been all over the place for hours hopping around trying to climb walls and can't find a way into the next area. I even backtracked under the building and still can't get to the statue.
I can get back up out of the hole (that has a tow truck/garbage container truck on the edge of it) to the street I was chased from by piling cars with the Grav Gun and climbing up, but even after piling cars on top of each other I can see the statue in the intersection from the building I'm in, but darned if I can get to it!
Meanwhile the Combines and the Squadmembers keep on coming and getting killed off and I'm ready to surrender...

Oh god, I had that same problem the first time I played. Unfortunately, I dont remember what I did. Sorry for the unhelpful post...

Post a screenshot of the furthest you've gotten, I'm not entirely sure where you are.

there should be beams to walk across on the 3rd floor if im sure of where your at then you can jump down to where teh horse statue is

Stranded in Building

Hi and thanks for the replys. Giant384 knows the building where I'm at, I'm only a buildings wall away from the street the statue is at. But I'm still on the ground floor with the stairway that leads up to the second floor that has the middle section of the second floor broken down. That's where I'm stuck and can't get across to the rest of the second or third floor.
I've been looking for some beams that will allow me to try jumping onto the other half of the 2nd floor so I can make my way to the third floor and drop down or stairway down to the street that leads to the intersection the statue is in the middle of, but so far have had no luck in any attempt to make it to the section of the second floor that is beyond the broken walls and floors. I swear, if I hear "Hey it's Freeman!" or "I'm with you Doctor Freeman" one more time I'm gonna wind up in a straight jacket!
The Combine aggressors are unending and constantly respawn and fire out the windows at me and the squad. Combines are also able to walk out on ledges and fire. They occasionally fire down from the third floor too. I'm beginning to think there's a glitch or something, because I've tried everyway I can think of to climb and jump from broken wall to broken wall to get into the side of the second floor the combines are defending.

I hate to just noclip through the section, because it seems like a great part of the level getting through to the 3rd floor and taking out the rest of the Striders on the way to the statue.

I'll try to take a screen shot, but I've never done that and was able to post it on a post. I keep looking for some hidden passage or vent or something to get to the other floors of this wrecked building. Man is this frustrating!

nope i was thinking of a different area sorry, but in that area usually you trigger the strider to blow away some walls. then you should walk on the lowest floor to the next section

Jump down, and run around to get blasted.

in the first picture where the combine is standing, right under him a strider is supposed to shoot its cannon and make a path there, just run around there carefully.

I know what I did now, I wasted the strider before he took out the wall and made the passageway. I went back a few saves and replayed it with the strider intact and sure enough the strider did exactaly what some of you said he would do and I was able to just walk on through the hole in the wall and complete the level.

And that walk through link that deluded posted was a big help too.
