Stuck at the "re-convening" elevator

The portion where your Vortigaunt ally asks you to "summon" him, and I'm a tad lamentably clueless as to how to get the broken elevator to work (after escaping the Antlion Queen)...

Please, what to subsequently do, if I may be so confused?

I don't think this is in the right thread, but I could be wrong hah.

Face the mechanical machine so that you can see the gears in front of you. Pull a 180 and you should be able to see a wrecked motor of somekind infront of you. Attached to this motor is a gear. Pull it off but watch for the tongue of the puller-upper alien thing. Bring it to the original machine you started off facing, and put it in. Pull the lever, call the elevator, and your all set.
