stuck in nova prospekt....

help me out please.
i've just killed that big ol ant lion queen, the second one. i make my way to what looks to be outside, there is a zombie lurking below the stairs. it seems as if there is some type of machinery thats moving and crushing rocks......i cant figure out where i'm supposed to go.

That't it. Go along between the nasty looking Combine Walls and about Half-Way along on your left should be a rather large gap in the wall. Go through there and drop down the hole. Begin the next chapter

ya you should see a fire along the wall, that is where the hole in the wall is where you need to go.

and you don't have a huge amount of time to get through that hole, or else you're gonna go ...

This bit of the game confuses me a fair bit... why are those walls eating away at Nova Prospekt? I mean, City 17 is miles and miles away by now. Does NP have its own citadel or a smaller version of it to power the walls?
