Just got CS:S back up from all of my troubles (read my other posts if you care) but now, in-game, it studders...excessivly. I have a ping around 900 in-game but I'm on 3mb cable and should be gettin a ping of 25-40.

Any console commands to help?
Any tips at all?

Thanks in advance.

Well ... now it's only when I turn around corners or go into big, open spaces. It's not my FPS that's causing the studdering because when I go into the big space, I quickly hit TAB and look at my ping... usually around 500 then, if I get out of the space, it goes back to a nice 70-90 when it should actually be at 45 or lower at all times.

Everything was great before that update.

I was messing around with a TCP/IP configurer to get optimal settings... I don't think that would cause the problem but would it? The optimizer to supposed to OPTIMIZE not... er, de-optimize (wd?).

Did you used to have low pings like what you want? If so, undo everything you did after that and try it. If not, it sounds like your cable is being over-shared, and there's nothing you can do except switch companies, maybe dsl, my dsl gets me 30-40 pings.
Anyway, some console commands:

cl_cmdrate 100
cl_updaterate 100
rate 100000
cl_rate 100000
cl_smooth 0

might help, but I doubt it, try putting them in your config, i dont think source remembers some of those from the console.

Yea, I tried those and they didn't help.

Since I re-formatted my hard-drive, all my drivers were deleted and that might be the problem. I'm download my ethernet cards' drivers right now, and I'll see how it goes.

EDIT: Nope, that didn't help at all. I dunno what's going on. This is the results from a Charter Speed test:

Upload: 250.87kbps
Download: 2.86mbps

I really don't understand why I should be getting a 120 ping and 500+ ping spikes everytime I turn a corner.

Start CSS, press ctrl+alt+delete and close explorer.exe and any other programs that might be running. When I close my explorer.exe I get much better performance.

If that doesn't help, you can try adjusting your router settings. My router was dropping packets like mad a while back and I would get +300 ping as a result.

(Noob to cable/routers) How would I adjust these settings?

Same thing happens to me... I think it may be something in the update, i use to get 50 ping, now i get 200, and ghost around the map, but, it lags only, when i join the server.

See the part in bold, can you answer?
