Anyone who has ever seen Idris Elba act, be it in something brilliant like The Wire or even something awful like Takers, knows he’s reason enough to buy a ticket for a movie. His inclusion in Kenneth Branagh’s Thor is one of the film’s most exciting pieces of casting, in my opinion.

However, that opinion is decidedly not shared by the Council of Conservative Citizens who plan to boycott the upcoming Marvel film because Elba plays the Norse god Heimdall who, in real life, is white.

I'm not familiar with the Thor comic. Is the character black? Otherwise, racist or not, it is an odd casting choice.

The character Elba plays, Heimdall, is sometimes referred to as the “White God” and is regularly portrayed as such, even in the Thor comic books. However, the CofCC themselves call the Norse Gods “mythology” in their headline. And, by definition, mythology is allegorical – a story. Not real.

Great ... now the events in the Stargate TV series have been retconned into Marvel Super Heroes lore. :rolleyes:

I must point out that makes their rage moot is that this is a MARVEL character, not the Norse god of the same name.

Okay... there's a difference between calling this shit out for being untrue to the source material, and calling it out because you're a racist dick. I guarantee you these guys don't give a shit about Thor as a comic or movie property, let alone the sanctity of ****ing Norse mythology.
 
I just hope there aren't any black hobbits in the hobbit.
