I used to have pretty smooth gameplay, then all of a sudden CSS started "stuttering" on me. It is somewhat constant, like I'll be running around then stutter stutter, then it'd be smooth again, then a couple seconds later stutter stutter, then smooth again, lather rinse repeat. Any ideas?

Try to disable your sound acceleration in windows Control Panel.

Hmm i realy think it is your graphics card because i did play on a pc of my friend and he has the same pb with it . When something exploded than you will get much lower fps. try setting everything low

Lower sound quality.

People are amazed when they realize how much CPU cycles the sound eats up.

And for 90% of people, they won't notice between high and medium, even low.

I don't think this is a hardware issue though. I have the same problem and it gets pretty bad sometimes. It doesn't occur in hl2 or deathmatch. Anyone come up with anything?

I just have that problem on a couple maps like dust2 in bomb loc A, it's always laggy there, can dip to 1fps even. And that's a massive drop from what I'm usually at. I doubt it's sound since it happens even when I'm alone, but I know that helps so I'll probably change it anyway. I've got onboard sound anyway, what do I need high quality sound for?

Well i fixed it by turning cl_smooth to 0. I could have sworn i messed with everything.

not related but ..::ButcheR:: hell of a pick where did ya find it

Thanks that fixed it for me. For some reason it was set to 1 I think, so I made an autoexec.cfg and put cl_smooth 0 and voila no more stuttering :bounce:

YEP like ive stated in several posts cl_smooth 0 is the way to go, it stops 90% of stuttering issues.

cl_smooth hasn't helped at all when it comes to the whole "fps drops to 15-20 whenever an enemy runs on screen" deal :(

yoyo

Try this shit because that shit used to happen to me oh ut2k4 when i had 9800 pro. As ur runnin the program, press ctr-alt-del then go to processes tab and set the game priority to above normal or high. That should fix it. Otherwise, download a computer enhancing program called GameGain.
