substance problems

Hi, all. Does anyone else have huge problems running hl2:substance? I can run hl2 fine with respectablesettings but substance is really slow even when i put the settings as low as they'll go. (640x480, everything on low) this doent help one bit. am I the only one?
I was gutted cos substance looks so cool. please tell me I can fix it!!

Without sounding too harsh, you're problem is your CPU is too slow; if you slow down the game using host_timescale you'll find your computer can deal with the polygons, it's only the physics and AI in real-time that slows your computer down. Your only solution is to get a nice shiny A64

Sorry I couldn't help more, if there is another solution I'd be glad to hear it as I can't run substance well either
