Sudden FPS drop, lag too?

Hello all.

I recently moved into a new apartment with a new ISP. Once I got my comp up and runnin, I installed that flash pack with all the new models and sounds and stuff. It was great for a while, then all of a sudden my fps, which normally sat around 60-70, started dropping to 10 and below on big fights. It was NOTICEABLY slower. My ping stopped being what it used to as well. I would get pings of 10-15 and as low as 5, now I can't get below 50. This all happened in the last few days and I don't know what's up. My specs...

Sorry for the self bump, this problem is almost making the game unplayable.

Your ping will be high no matter what, it all just depends on the location of servers, etc. If you are having a sudden lose in fps, check it for spyware/adware/trojans/viruses, then defrag.

It might've made your fps decrease a bit depending on how detailed the models are.

What's your secret to such good fps??? I have the same card but 512 RAM and a 2.4 GHz processor yet I get like 15-30 fps on de_inferno. I have 0 spyware or viruses and no other background programs running.

It's the extra 512 MB ram and the slightly faster CPU.

yea but that gives you c. 40-50 extra fps. CS doesnt use much RAM (512 is enough) and the processor difference is pretty slight. I just think my PC is old and I have slow RAM.

512mb isn't enough for most games today, I am dead serious about that, 1gig is best bet now-a-days.

I defragged and did a full virus/adware clean. Same problem. I even used omniztoolz to make a config for the game where it basically looks like 1.6 Still running at really low fps. My defragmenter said that the gcf files were fragmented, and that it couldn't defragment them, so I deleted them and am downloading fresh ones. I'll post results.

So I defragged, de-virus, de-spyware, and re-downloaded all the gcf's. Deleted my weird config and the game made a new one. I installed the latest drivers for my card too. Same thing, fps running at around 15 whever there's a fight. When just moving around it's between 30-40. I still can't figure out why I had such a dramatic loss in fps all of a sudden. Is anybody else experiencing this?

I've noticed it some. My performance on dust and dust2 dropped especially noticeably. I'm also getting 30 fewer fps in the stress test. It's still quite playable for me, but it would be nice to have those fps back.

This is a problem that a lot of people are having. Apparently, one of the recent updates did... something.

that's odd if it played fine from your old location, if you havent changed anything then i'd say it would have to be related to your connection but that most likely works fine...have you tried new rates? that'd be for the lag..as for the loss of fps..everything should still be the same as it was...bump your case around at al during the move?

cl_smooth 0 , fps_max 200 , mat_dxlevel 81 -dunno but I get better fps with these commands in my autoexec(it is not so much uglier in dx81).

i think it does have something to do with models because i have replaced all the default weapon models with new ones and they are quite detailed so this MIGHT be the problem.......
have u tried uninstalling all those models??????
or how bout uninstalling HL2 and CS all together..........?

The lag problem sorted itself out. I switched over the latest omega drivers, for a change, and still getting 9-10 fps when there is a fight. I'm going to try and uninstall and delete EVERYTHING, not just the gcf's. Wish me luck.

EDIT: Damnit, I'm not gonna do that. Deleting all the gcf's and stuff IS doing that right? I uninstalled all of those models a while ago, and that seemed to have caused the problem. This is so frustrating. It ran PERFECTLY before. And all of a sudden it's like my computer can't handle the game.

EDIT2: And just so you're aware, the splash pack in question is PAF CSS Total Replacement Pack.

I deleted my CS:S folder, and it re-installed the folder when I launched the game. Still the same problem. De_port runs less than 8 fps most of the time.

You aren't using AA or AF by any chance are you? I can't really tell for sure the screen shot.

Just to note, when I finally decided to update my drivers to the latest ATI Catalyst, my FPS died in CSS. It went from 70-100 to 15-40. It turned out that the drivers I downloaded activated AA/AF automatically. I couldn't find the setting to disable it so I just decided to download the Omega drivers. After that it was back to normal but I think you mentioned that you're using them.
