Sudden problem with HL2 under Vista Professional

I installed HL2 on my Sony Vaio SZ series laptop (with GeForce 7400 Go), under Vista Professional. When I first installed it, everything was just fine. When I re-visited the game some days later, frame rates are down from the average 30 to 8, and it's become unplayable. I didnt install anything else that couldve interfered with anything. Un-installing and re-installing it didn't make any difference either. In fact, the problems already start at the beginning, when the guy with the valve in the eye should appear. This, strangely, gets skipped altogether, i might hear the sound occasionally.
Anyone got any ideas?

I don't think HL2 has Vista compatibility yet. Wait a couple weeks.

Hmmm... I saw in a games magazine that it should run fine. And the puzzling thing is, of course, that the game DID run fine at first.

ugh...the only thing I can suggest is to make sure vsync is off...HL2 ran better after I turned that off.

But yeah, we'll have to wait a bit until new patches/drivers are released.

there is no vista professional. also from what i remember hl2 should work fine in vista,but the mobile drivers for the nvidia cards might not be updated.

Steam is doing Vista support. Have a look on their site. Its right at the top, under 'Annoucements'
