What are some books you guys are going to read over the for enjoyment.
I'm currently reading "1984" and I have to say it is one of the best books I've ever read, but before the summer is over I'd also like to fit "Day of the Triffits"
in.

What's on you schedule.

How about Stephen King's epic Dark Tower series - it's a 7 book saga that's currently on number 6 with the final one arriving this autumn.

Foundation Trilogy

Ender's game (a must if you haven't read it)

Dune (good, if not overly long)

I've already read all these, they're just suggestions to you. :)

What is Ender's game? I have heard of it before.

:x For AP U.S. History class next year, i've got a summer reading book, called "The Albions Seed"- it's basically a history book. Also, some other books I have to read for Honors English next time.

I'm trying to get the Da Vinci Code from a friend but his dad wants to read it -.-

Also interested in the Earth's Children series by Jean M. Auel.

Day of the Triffids is a good choice. Wyndham has written some other great books. I'd recommend 'Web' and 'The Chrysallids'. Good books :)
Also, if you don't mind having your entire life devoted to them, you could try the 'Wheel of Time' series.

any thing thats related to world war 2 machines.....thats all since im not a book fan myself

personally I think L.E Modesit jr. writes pretty good shit. The forever war by joe haldeman is very good too, and oddly sad. Greg Bear, David Brinn, Asimov, are all solid authors too. I'm talking mostly scifi sorta stuff here. jack whyte's series about camelot is good and will take you a while to work through. Philip Jose Farmer's dayworld (I think that's the title) series is another good kind of dystopic literature series. And of course philip k dick writes lots of good stuff. If you're lookin for easier pulpy reading, piers anthony is pretty addictive, although I somehow feel dirtier for having read his newer stuff. I've basically just described my library's scifi section here, or atleast the better parts.

There's some long series I can't quite remember the name of, but it was very old school sci fi, about a dysmal future where one computer is running humanity and sends people off to distant planets and changes their biology to preserve human life. But some people are trying to shut it down

For fiction, anything by rober ludlum, or Dale Brown, or of course tom clancy, is guaranteed action packed. The power of one and tandia by bryce courtney are an excellent series that you won't want to put down.

Those are all the good authors and books that stand out in my mind at the momment.

I was thinking on getting a bunch of Stephen King and Agatha Christie books.

Alistar Horne - The Seven Ages of Paris

Followed by

Francoise Bluche - Louis XIV

:D

I just recently finished Confessions of a Dangerous Mind , by Chuck Barris.

Whether or not his involvement with the CIA is true, it certainly was an interesting read.

I was motivated to read the book after seeing the movie.

Right now I've been reading Fugitives and Refugees by Chuck Palahniuk. Writer of FIGHT CLUB .

Its all about Portland, Oregon. And its a non fiction. And its a travel book. (at least, you'll find it in the travel section)

I'm just about done and its a pretty awsome book. I really want to go up there now and hang out.

There are just some really cool places there.

And its really cool because he gives directions to all the places he talks about and phone numbers and everything. Its cool.

I also need 2 books to read this summer. I'm going with "1984" and probably an Albert Einstein book, but please recommend others to me. A great book i read last summer was "PREY" by Michael Crichton...amazing book..about nanotechnology taking over the world. He also wrote Jurassic Park and a few others.

i havent read a book, in ages. i might buy fear and loathing and 1984. any suggestions ??

The Farseer trilogy by Robin Hobb is a good series of books, Dan Bwrosn Da Vinci Code seems to be doing the business atm.

Anything in the sci fi and fantasy masterworks series is worth a read, I'd recommend Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe and yes Ender's game is worth a read :)

I've just started reading 'Earth' by David Brin. The first 200-odd pages are pretty good anyway, don't know about the rest yet :)

I was reading "Things to do during the summer besides reading that are less painful than a hemeroid" and let me tell ya, what a good read!

"The Zombie Survival Guide" by Max Brooks

I'll be ready to cap me some zombies when the time comes while all you fools will get eaten.... EATEN!!!

Excellent book and it's great since I'm already making a horror mod... it comes even handier.

I should finally knock of Shadow Divers sometime soon, and I've been gobbling up Terry Pratchett at an alarming rate. He is a MUST for any self-respecting Douglas Adams fan.

I haven't read many novels lately (barring the Halo trilogy). Other than that, I read DeathDay, which is a good sci-fi book. Basically it's about a group of alien species that work together much like the Covenant, and their ranking is based on skin color. So they come, and they begin to enslave the entire human race. I found it extremely interesting, and I'm going to pick up the sequel, EarthRise, sometime soon. I really recommend DeathDay if you're into that whole the-human-race-is-being-taken-over thing :)

Going to finish the Ender's Game series. I'm only on Xenocide so I've got 5 more to go including this one. I just hope Xenocide gets as good as Ender's Game where I got hooked on it and finished it in a day and a half. If I do have enough time I'll probably read the second book of the Gunslinger series as well.
