What was so special about Supreme Commander anyway? The only thing that was really special was the ultra-zoom, and that was more like a full-screen minimap.

Though initially hard, the ferry system was what made the game for me. Forget all previous RTS' for transporting troops, the transport system was so effective in SupCom that it made D-Day landings look like Yacht race

first of all, yes the zoom (seriously, how can you play any other rts as effectively as supcom without it?)
secondly, the massive battles are just ****ing awesome.
third, there are a ton of units in the game for all different situations (compare roughly 80 units/faction in supcom to a whole whopping 12 in starcraft)
the ability to plan out awesome strategies and then be able to carry them out with coordination and ease with enhanced queing abilities
full 3d simulation (very, very few rts's have this)
huge maps to play on (and small ones too for short battles)
and a ton more (easily modded, transport system, just to name a few)
