Sandra Day O'Conner just retired.

Bush has an appointment to make.

If Rheinquist also retires (guy look like he could die soon from his sickness :( ) that'll give Bush 2 appointments to the court.

We're all going to die.

...you know, eventually.

This is going to be a big battle due to the fact that she was the swing vote on most left wing policies.

this is complete non-sense. the absolute uproar on the news and constant coverage is just proof that this misguided judiciary is what REALLY controls the country. the supreme courts gone beyond interpretation.

Exactly. Congress doesn't make laws, they just propose them. It's the Supreme Court that makes 'em. Well, and the president. But yeah.

The Pres. can't make laws on his own..

Does he have the power to refuse to sign?

Which is funny, becuase alot of Democrats complain about bills, ect. That are passed, and blame it on the President, yet they had to have at least 51% vote on it. And the President does not make these laws, he just signs them off. :)

To Feath: Yeah, Veto laws.

he either must sign it into law assuming congress has approved of it, or he can veto it (a power relatively rarely used by our presidents), where it will go back to congress and must be approved by a 2/3 majority to be signed into law regardless of the veto.

Well, 51% of a quorom. And since Republicans control (help me out here Americans) 52(?) seats in the senate and I'm not sure how many in the House...well, you can do the math.

If everyone doesn't like it, then why did they vote them in in the first place? Hmm, I think some of us need to think before we vote.

Do you know what a minority is?

...or are you just kiddin' with me?

49% isn't really a minority. Escpecially when they handle alot of power.

No, but it is when there are ELECTIONS. Which is what I was referring to.

So? Everyone can vote. Minority or not, you still have the right to vote and choose who you want, so don't blame others when someone gets put in power.

I don't understand what you're getting at. I voted for who I wanted. I did NOT vote for the people who won. So I can't complain that OTHER people didn't vote my way, and elected someone that I didn't want in office?

Nope. You can't complain that others voted differently because they wanted someone else. The will of the people overrides your one opinion.

So I should just sit quietly while the country (in my view and the view of 49% of voting Americans) falls to shit? I can't voice the fact that I think what's happening is wrong? (Let's continue this in PM, we're getting off-topic).

The only world Superpower. Yup, thats falling to shit Alright. Very high standards of living. Horrible. Huge literacy rate. Disgusting. And I never said you couldn't voice what you thought was wrong and if you think things are screwing up. I said you can't complain if someone you hate gets in office and you don't like it.

But the enormous unemployment rate, ridiculous contrasts between rich and poor, high obesity rate and huge amounts of violent crime don't bother you?

5.1%

Hardly enormous

Yours is 4.7% for comparison

Well, that's what we learned in history.

Yeah, UK sucks. :(

I was showing your/our numbers as an example of good rate in direct opposition to the claim you made :p, not to say it sucked. (and to compare that ours is good, too)

If you want bad unemployment, look at Germany at ~11-12%

or France, I just saw the figures, at 10%
