edit: I don't think it will be ever made legal on the federal level, although it has already been made legal in some states.

I think it might be eventually. I mean, we have an extremely conservative administration at the moment, so it won't happen tomorrow, but... someday.

It is legal in the united states (Just not everywhere), so your question needs to be rephrased
I think within the next 10 or 20 years at least one state will make it legal
(Which will bring about international debate on the subject and hopefully a nationwide legalization)
