I'm conducting a survey for a project and I need answers for the following questions about Anime.

1.) What is appealing about it? Why do you watch it?
2.) Can an anime possibly be good without a naked girl or rape in it?
3.) Do you like anime to have a lot of violence in it?
4.) Would you watch an anime that had no sex/rape/nudity but a lot of violence in it? Please provided titles if any.
5.) What would you change about current animes? What would you like to see included in future cartoons?
6.) Would you watch an anime that had a coherent storyline and quality dialog? Again. if there are any of these, please provided titles if you can think of them.
7.) Please list in bulleted form the three most important things you look for when watching an anime.

Thanks very much.

-Glo

P.S. Yes these are serious questions.

1.) Don't know, the scenario is great.
2.) Of course.
3.) Not really. Some is OK, but gore and all is no need at all.
4.) Hmmmm... see above.
5.) Not so stiff animations...
6.) Of course.
7.) Interesting story/topic, good graphics, cool characters.

->the answers are based on Cowboy Bebop.

1.) What is appealing about it? Why do you watch it?
It's animation, so it breaks the limits, and it does things that just would look cheesy on any other medium.

2.) Can an anime possibly be good without a naked girl or rape in it?
Everytime...

EDIT : I meant exactly the opposite. Most animes with naked girls/rape are Hentai, and I don't usually watch Hentai for other reasons than you watch porn.

3.) Do you like anime to have a lot of violence in it?
I hate when you see a war and there's no blood, so if there's violence it shouldn't be curbed, not at all. Bot most anime I watch don't have a drop of blood on it.

4.) Would you watch an anime that had no sex/rape/nudity but a lot of violence in it? Please provided titles if any.
Many....Although sexuality is a recurrent theme, there hardly is sex/rape/nudity on most serious anime.

- Cowboy Bebop
- Trigun

not in the mood to list more

5.) What would you change about current animes? What would you like to see included in future cartoons?
I hate the current "pseudophilosphy" that dominates the medium. I'm off anime for a while now because of all that BS.

6.) Would you watch an anime that had a coherent storyline and quality dialog? Again. if there are any of these, please provided titles if you can think of them.
... Most anime do. Some people are just too ****ing fed by Hollywood that they end up not getting shit from Anime. As I've said, some anime creators try too hard to get "philosophical" with their anime, and I'm starting to hate that.

-Full Metal Alchemist
-Serial Experiments : Lain

7.) Please list in bulleted form the three most important things you look for when watching an anime.
- Good graphics
- Good storyline
- Action. I don't enjoy calm anime like Chobits.

btw, this poll is obviously biased in a very bad way.

1.) What is appealing about it? Why do you watch it?

I suppose in some ways it appeals to the saturday morning cartoon part of my childhood. However, that does not mean I watch immature anime. I watch it because usually it has good art, and good plot... Unlike most north american tv.

2.) Can an anime possibly be good without a naked girl or rape in it?

Yes. That's hentai. There is anime, and then they're is hentai.

3.) Do you like anime to have a lot of violence in it?

yes ;). But not always

4.) Would you watch an anime that had no sex/rape/nudity but a lot of violence in it? Please provided titles if any.

yes, there are plenty. hellsing, cowboy bebop, last exile, naruto, macross zero

5.) What would you change about current animes? What would you like to see included in future cartoons?

Too much anime is becoming stupid. Many of the ones meant for girls would lower your IQ if you watched 5 minutes of it. Drama is not meant for anime.
More anime like lastEXILE would be amazing.

6.) Would you watch an anime that had a coherent storyline and quality dialog? Again. if there are any of these, please provided titles if you can think of them.

Of course... That's the only stuff i DO watch. lastEXILE, berserk, hellsing, cowboy bebop etc...

7.) Please list in bulleted form the three most important things you look for when watching an anime.

Not Drama
Good plot
Good art
action is a big bonus

1.) It's a different form of art, it's stylistic, and it's generally more original than Hollywood.
2.) Yes, easily.
3.) It's not a deciding factor. Violence can be good, no violence can be good as well.
4.) Yep. Akira is an example, if you don't count the one shirt-ripping scene.
5.) I'd change the quality of translation in some animes. Some of the translations are just horrible.
6.) I think the real question is, "Would I watch an anime that didn't have a coherent storyline and quality dialog?" And the answer would be no, unless it's hilarious.
7.)
Story/Presentation
Voice Acting
Visual Style

What is appealing about it? Why do you watch it?
What's appealing about movies? What's appealing about games? They're just good to watch.

Can an anime possibly be good without a naked girl or rape in it?
Yes.

Do you like anime to have a lot of violence in it?
Not necessarily. Just because there's violence in it, it doesn't mean I'll automatically like it.

Would you watch an anime that had no sex/rape/nudity but a lot of violence in it? Please provided titles if any.
You obviously don't watch anime. Quit with the close-minded sex/rape/violence questions.

What would you change about current animes? What would you like to see included in future cartoons?
Less Japanese quirkiness. More grown-up settings + less 12 year old main characters.

Would you watch an anime that had a coherent storyline and quality dialog? Again. if there are any of these, please provided titles if you can think of them.
Like Sprafa says, most animes have a coherent storyling and quality dialog.
- Wonderful Days (not the best movie, but it's coherent)
- Ghost in the Shell

Please list in bulleted form the three most important things you look for when watching an anime.
- Story
- Characters
- Quality of the animation

WTF is with the bias that anime junkies only like to watch the perverted stuff.

I refuse to take this survey. In fact, I refuse to post in this thread.

1.) It's like a cartoon, but often has a deeper meaning and better storyline, not to mention better animation
2.) Yes. Both animes I watch don't have that stuff in them.
3.) No but it helps in small doses to create atmosphere
4.) Yes. Naruto, and Full Metal Alchemist for isntance.
5.) There's nothing I would like. I find them very entertaining as they are.
6.) Yep. Naruto and Full metal alchemist both follow continuing (and great) storylines
7.)
  • Great storyline
  • Nice animation
  • Humour in places where appropriate, and when least expected

1.) I only watch Naruto, because it has a great story and amazing characters.
2.) Yes Naruto is, no nudity or sexy girls. Just cute girls :D
3.) Yes, else it's not interesting
4.) Yep defenently, Naruto
5.) Nothing, Naruto is perfect.
6.) Dont understand
7.) Interesting characters, great music, sounds and graphic effects.

1) Anything can happen in anime, as opposed to real life, adds a fantasy/escapist element, like games
2) Of course, though i like hentai personally
3) It doesn;t have to have violence, but i tend to watch violent anime, though if it's got a damn fine story there's no need for it
4) Rurouni Kenshin OAVs (aka Samurai X in the states) is damn fine, violent, good story
5) I want more good stories
6) Neon Genesis Evangelion, Boogiepop Phantom, Lain - all have great stories but require multiple viewings, though they're certainly worth it
7) Interesting, well developed Story
Good characters
Awesome visual style

1.) What is appealing about it? Why do you watch it?
Erm... well, anime can be just like any TV programme or Movie only it just happens to be animated. Using an animated form is obviously great in stuff like Sci-Fi or Fantasy because you can draw whatever you like: Live Action Mecha shows would be cool but umm... they'd never happen, or they'd end up being CG. Other than that, it's just like the idea of stylised worlds. A good anime is just like a gallery of paintings that tell a story...

2.) Can an anime possibly be good without a naked girl or rape in it?
Errr... could anime with those two things actually be any good?! Seriously, this is a bad, bad stereotype associated with anime. Like 2% of all anime programs are like that, and that is 2% I avoid as far as I can. I really, really hate fanservice (bouncy boobs, pointless nudity) but rape? WTF?! You don't think that all anime is like this do you? O_o

3.) Do you like anime to have a lot of violence in it?
I don't mind Violence in anime. Some of my favorite anime is about as violent as an episode of Teletubbies (Kiki's Delivery Service: may contain mild peril :O ), but some other stuff is a bit more violent. Ultra violence is a bit OTT and I'd be put off watching something if it had ultra-violent scenes.

4.) Would you watch an anime that had no sex/rape/nudity but a lot of violence in it? Please provided titles if any.
Lol... there you go with the sex/rape/nudity thing. Yes, I would watch anything without sex/rape/nudity in it and that includes a few violent flicks. Less violent the better, but i've been known to enjoy some fairly violent stuff (Akira, some scenes in Princess Mononoke...)

5.) What would you change about current animes? What would you like to see included in future cartoons?
Ridiculous ammounts of Fanservice have to go. I'd like to see more Anime that challenges the ridiculous violence / sex stereotype, though there's already loads of stuff about anyway. I also think that every anime series should have at least five characters who could be made into soft-toy merchandise because plushies are just cool and stuff.

6.) Would you watch an anime that had a coherent storyline and quality dialog? Again. if there are any of these, please provided titles if you can think of them.
I wouldn't watch anime with incoherent storylines or bad dialogue. The absence of those things is a major put-off. Examples? Anything by Studio Ghibli (Spirited Away etc.), Tokyo Godfathers, Turn-A Gundam, Fruits Basket, Escaflowne... everything else as far removed from boobs and shallowness as possible. Actually, I lie: some supposedly "profound" anime is actually just incoherent tosh, but I still love it (Akira / Ghost in the Shell)

7.) Please list in bulleted form the three most important things you look for when watching an anime.
- A good story incl good dialogue
- A cast of believeable, varied characters incl good character designs
- Good voice overs

P.S. Yes these are serious questions.
LOL, you sure? I'd be so unsurprised if this was featured in next week's "weekend web" on SA :P
