Due to some people refusing to believe that one of the first maps for Sven Co-op 2 isn’t taken directly from Half-Life 2 they have released another 2 screenshots from said map.[br]
[br]You can find all of the screenshots and the newspost on the official Sven Co-op site.

The first screens were obviously different from the actual maps. :s

yeppers, they are good though, but obviously not from the game.

Are people overlooking the fact that it's not possible to decomple Source maps yet, or have I missed the memo and it is possible?

Sven Co-Op have been around for years, they don't need to rip things off.

anyone who's been using Hammer should've known that they aren't that difficult to recreate as long as you've got some patience!

very nice looking maps though!

Even so, at least if they've done that they've rebuilt it themselves. I haven't got an argument with that.

I had exactly the same with my Watergate map. I've lost count of the amount of people that accused me of extracting a Valve map.

yeah, that was my point. People who are being skeptical that they've just 'stolen' a Valve map should spend a while trying to recreate one on Hammer. it's not easy, but it's possible if you spend enough time

Are we sure its not possible to extract Valve maps? Surely you can extract the bsp from the GCF, and then decompile using old tools to a .map file, which can then be read into Hammer and used to whatever ends? I havent tried, and Im not accusing this group of doing it, just that im sure it is possible, but this team is very talented if people think their maps are Valve ones :)

It's not possible. Yes, you can extract the BSP files from the GCFs. However, the HL1 decompile tools won't work (the BSP format is different). I'm absolutely, utterly certain of this.

So when someone accuses you of "ripping off" the map that you painstakingly built from scratch, then it's probably the highest compliment you can get.

Yes, it's possible to take maps out of the cache files. However, it isn't possible to then edit them like they clearly have here as Hammer can't open BSP files.

For Half-Life 1 there was a tool that allowed you to decompile the BSP files but as Pi|Mu|Rho said, the format is different and this won't work with HL2 BSP files.

I think Pi|Mu|Rho has had similar accusations about his map.

i must admit i thought it was the firefight map from HL2 when i first saw it, but after abit of looking at the map you can easily tell the difference

it looks like its going to be an excellent map though

I would expect someone will release a decompile tool within the next 3-4 months mind you.

Good because I REALLY want to see how valve has done certain effects.

If you want to look at non-brush entities, get a tool called EntEd - it allows you to view, copy and paste the entities from a HL2 map. I've used it to look at various sequences in the Valve maps.

Hmmm, well I know Commando even though I havn't known him long. I don't think he used Valve files, Sven Coop don't work in that way. You also need to remember that Sven Coop 2 will be a coop version of the whole Half-Life universe. I can't say anything but just take into acount its suposed to look like Half-Life and Half-Life 2.

You can't use Valve files. The most you can do is view entities to see how Valve did it. I'd call that a valuable learning experience.

The communities in a bit of a sad state when people don't trust Sven Coop.
