I don't know how many of you have played sven coop, but i remember that there was one awesome map where there was a huge, moderatly deep pit in the shape of a box in the center. it had invisible walls surrounding it so you couldnt fall in. There was a walkway surrounding the pit so you could look in and watch the battle. Inside the pit you could spawn npcs and have them battle eachother
There was a line of buttons along a wall, each corresponding to an NPC. Under each NPC name there was one switch that spawned an enemy NPC version in the pit and another that would spawn a friendly version. There were also additional buttons that could do stuff like flood the pit wit water, transport you into the pit to take place in the battle, or destroy all the monsters.
I was wondering if anyone with the sufficient mapping skills could remake this map, the NPC battles would be amazing inside it with HL2 NPCs.
Heres my vision of the new version of the map:
The new version would acually consist a number of different maps linked by teleporters.
Each map would have the same type of pit with a walkway around it. Each would also have the same concept of spawining npcs in the middle pit to battle but each would be a different type of terain.
For example one area could have just flat ground in the pit, one could be a mountainous area, one could have small buildings, one could have losts of stuff to throw around with the grav gun, etc.
Like its sven coop counterpart, each map would have buttons to spawn NPCs along the side (combine soldier with shotgun, combine soldier with pistol, strider, etc.). Also like its sven coop counterpart, each monster would have a button under it to make it friendly or an enemy. This would let you do things like let you fight rebel citizens with rocket launchers with a bunch of friendly combine soldiers helping you or engineer a strider vs. strider battle.
A cool addition, although it could take alota work, would be to add new monsters. Adding totally new monsters might be too difficult though (seeing how complex HL2 monsters are) so some new monsters could be new versions of old monsters
Examples:
a giant headcrab
a green eyed, blue vortigaunt that shoots a non-bouncing version of the combine rifle's secondary fire (the energy balls)
instead of that green electricity.
a combine supersoldier (a black version of the combine elite, but twice as big)
a human sized version of the strider with less powerful weapons
Also it'd be nice for someone to work on finishing some of the unfinished NPCs like the crab synth, ichthyosaur, APC, and mortar synth so you could spawn them in.
Additional controls along the control wall could be:
a button to fill the pit with water
a button to destroy all the monsters
buttons to transport you to the other pit maps
a button to teleport you into the pit
buttons to spawn drivable vehicles in the pit
a rack with all the weapons and any custom ones
a button to make all monsters attack eachother
controls to reduce gravity
Although this would be a DM map, weapons do no damage to your fellow players so no one can spoiler the monster battlin' fun.
So does anyone wanna take this up?
