Switching to 2nd Install CD freeze

When it tells me to put in the 2nd CD I do so, but as soon as my computer tries to read it, it freezes. Not just the program, EVERYTHING, big time. As in, can't-move-the-mouse freeze. As in clicking-makes-the-system-beep-sound freeze. My CD does not have any scratches or anything. I just got my Steam account right now. I am running Windows XP, and I am absolutely sure my computer is capable of running this game. It spends a whole lot of time Copying a file called "base steam shared models" and "base steam shared materials".

Please help.

dammit somebody at least SAY you don't know how to fix it!

Those files should be "base source shared models" and "base source shared materials".
