It's that time again. Check out some new artists and new singles. I've discovered a few pretty sweet bands over the years.

All the tracks have been made available by the artists themselves which means that they are totally RIAA-safe. The first release of the 2010 SXSW edition contains 646 tracks totaling 3.35 GB. A second batch with another 200+ tracks is expected to be released in the near future (edit: it was released a few hours ago).

Awesome, thanks. Love looking through the SXSW list, but their website design sucks so much that I can only figure out how to get a nicely formatted list once in a blue moon. So sad I only went once out of the four years I could've gone. It took me three years to figure out that you can go to a whole week's worth of FREE day shows.

If that pic was at last year's free Explosions show (looks a lot like it), then for four hours straight, I was standing right here:

Erykah Badu was on right before but was late due to traffic and only did a 15 minute show. The two ladies in front of me were only there for Erykah and were rightfully pissed. They left before the Explosions show. Considering the entire park was packed (I knew a couple of people who stood in/across the street), I suspect they may have never gotten out of there.

[edit] Just realized they're torrents. I have always had bad luck with torrents. Sigh. Guess I'm stuck wading through the nasty sxsw site now.

Yeah, lol. There's no way I'd click to download 1038 mp3s individually.

You really aught to get sorted on using torrents. It's brilliant technology, and I don't see it going anywhere any time soon. It's really simple to use; the complicated stuff is going on under the hood. For example, I just click on the 'download torrent', and it will launch my torrent client and automatically start downloading.

That's really cool you were there. Sounds like a blast. Do you have a few photos to share?

For some reason I have a really hard time getting the connection set up. But it's either pick and choose from 1038 mp3s on the website, or delete 1000 mp3's that I don't like :p. So either way is fairly equivalent.

And sxsw is awesome. I'd highly recommend anyone in the area to make a list of free shows to see, get a bus schedule (very difficult to find parking), buy a day pass on the bus ($2 for unlimited rides), and fill up a day (or 4 days if you don't tire easily) with as many free shows as possible.

And you just reminded me, I do have photos (or at least my sister does -- I hardly ever take pictures).

A select few:
Slow Club - this was at a little restaurant called Lamberts. They've got a stage upstairs.

Theater Fire - I almost forgot about them. They were on the patio of a coffee shop called Dominican Joe's. They have an accordion player who was off the right edge of the pic. The vest on that one dude on the right is actually a metal thing that he plays. On one song he ran out with his drumsticks and drummed on the tables. It was freakish and hilarious.

Beach House

The Cannabinoids - They were doing the backing music for Erykah Badu. They ended up playing a little bit of their stuff and then they just dj'ed... for an hour, while we waited for Erykah to get there.

Explosions - Munaf is leading the clapping on Only Moment

They get fireworks because they're special:

I like the descriptions on the photos; that was interesting.
