If you never heard of it before, it's basically a metal band playing with a symphony. There are bands that do this all the time like Nightwish. Metallica even did one album with the San Francisco Orchestra. I love this stuff, it sounds increadible. Anyone else listen to something like this? Oh wait..I'll make a poll :)

I dunno, some of the stuff on S&M sounded shit. Some songs work with an orchestra and some don't. If a band takes the time to pick out there songs that will work with an Orchestra, sure, it can't be a bad thing.

It's really amasing when you listen to it... it's like the notes engulf you.

one of the best of these types of music has to be Nightwish with the album called "Once". The best IMO.

EDIT: This album also contains a song of musical perfection from every review I have read. It's called Ghost Love Score. The best Song in many many years.

I love some S&M in the evenin :naughty:

Though admittadly not all the songs were made better with the Symphony, but Master of Puppets with the Symphony is beautiful

/me thinks Nightwish sucks and is more pop then rock :|

Nightwish is definatly not rock..but it is not pop either...you should listen to their latest CD called "Once". It's on the line of EPIC. Best album in many years.

It sounds beautiful because symphony players know how to play their instruments very well. It doesn't mean their music is any more appealing, but when you find a good piece played by a symphony, it's that much better.

I quite like Nightwish's older stuff, but 'Once' is pretty much considered to be non-metal and actually fairly poppy. Anyway, even though you either love them or hate them, Dimmu Borgir play some wonderful Symphonic Black Metal.

Dimmu Borgir ftw! I also like Avathar, they're Scandinavian, but I doubt you know them. I have S&M btw. It pwns, but I don't really listen to it anymore.
