I am using an ATI 9600 all in wonder and installed the last drivers (the ones that came out for doom3...). I've installed the game and it would run fine for a few minutes.... then. BANG computer shuts down. I though it was a heat problem, but the computer runs fine with everything else. When I start the game... crash again. I cant find the solution.... Need help.
my puter: Amd 2400+
512 DDram
Asus MB with NV2 sound
ATI all in wonder 9600 128Mo (driver: 6.14.10.6483)
win XP Pro
HELP I WANT TO PLAY ... lol :o :naughty:

I also forgot to mention that I can play Counter Strike Source without any problem.... no crash, no bugs for more than an hour.... So it MUST be the game somehow.... What can I do ????????????
I'm really desapointed: 60 Euros (almost 78 $) .... took me 40 minutes to install/register with steam, etc... the loading is of the game is long, and I cant even play !!!!! I didn't have all those problems with doom3...

I'd uninstall the drivers using ATI's utility and put the older ones on. That would be a fairly quick way to see if the drivers are an issue.

I'm also using a 9600 Pro AIW and have not had any issues related to game crashing or running poorly, but I have not updated the drivers for a couple of weeks.

Well, I changed the drivers and it did nothing (I just could see the game was freezing then Pc crashes). I tryied the video testing from the game and it did fine... I cant think that the problem would be an overheat since I can play Counter S without any problem... and since I cant reboot the system right away and use it for hours with other programs. Just the game crashes.... Incompréhensible !!!! I can see I'm not really alone in that case... Valve really should worry about that....

the latest drivers are catalyst 4.11 . the doom ones are now old. i had problem with crash with 4.09

Try 4.7 drivers, I use those and HL2 seems stable enough, have to really screw around with it to break it so far *touch wood*

well it seems that it's all a matter of video drivers....
I followed your advice with the 4.7 drivers.... it helped: I could play the game without the pc crashing but with an crappy graphic and a stutering sound. So I reinstalled the Catalyst 4.1 drivers and now everything runs (so far.... played 30 minutes in a row so) Well I think Steam also patched the game (verifing the files.... ) and I also reduced the image details, shadow details, etc... so I will check now if increasing quality crashes the rest ... (well it shouldn't with an 9600 ATI and 128Mo but who knows...)
Thanks for all the advices
