Hi..........
I have a poop dell system and I was wondering If I could run half life 2 decentley?

Pentium 4 533 FSB 2.8 Gighz
512 Pc3200 Dual Channel Ram - Probably upgrading to 1 gig soon.
Ati 9250 256mb 128 bit PCI Video card - I know peice of crap. Only have PCI slots

You guys think I can run it decentley?

WELLCOME!!!

That looks ok, you shouldn't have any trouble.

TIP: Most/All games state there minimum system requirements on the back/side
of the packaging.

Oh, and take your time on seeing where threads belong. Best bet is to read the
forum rules.

Should be able to run it on medium settings pretty well.

Yes, and if you put some more RAM in, you'll easily be able to run it with high textures.

I dont want to be off topic but

my Pc hav 512 RAM, 1.8 ghz,nvidia gforce 5500 fx
and the maximun I can get is like 9 fps dont matter if I put everything on hig or low
if I upgrade the procesor it will run better?

also
sometimes it runs very good like 30 fps but thats is ocasionally sometimes when the PC was off in a long time,someone hav a explanation?also everytime it runs like that it shut off alone(the PC)

upgrading processor will help a lot. I have 2.2 ghz p4 and get 50 fps with high settings geforce 4 mx4000, I'm assuming you have a p3-4? definately go for something p4 or higher atleast 2.2 ghz.

Ati 9250 256mb 128 bit -- you should run okay on medium settings, I think you should try high texture and model details, it should be playable too. The first time I played HL2, it was on a R9000 64MB 128bit, it was a tiny bit faster than 9250 (despite the numbering) and the framerate was comfortable.

Upgrading to 1GB is a very good idea, HL2 uses the pagefile pretty often on 512MB systems.

Look for this:

# What Are The Minimum System Requirements?
The minimum requirements for Half-Life 2 and other Source engine games are:

* 1.2GHz processor
* 256MB RAM
* DirectX 7 graphics card
* Microsoft Windows 98/ME/2000/XP
* Internet Connection

The recommended requirements for Half-Life 2 and other Source engine games are:

* 2.4GHz processor
* 512MB RAM
* DirectX 9 graphics card
* Microsoft Windows 2000/XP
* Internet Connection

You will be able to run it. You have a pretty good comp but the graphics card totally doesn't match.

And dude, PCI isn't bad. Don't worry about that. I have a PCI card and can run Half Life 2 at max with 40 FPS.

Mind you, my cards not top of the line, but you get my point.

It may be because HL2 is forcing DX9 mode. In advanced graphics options, change the DirectX level to 8.1.

If that doesn't work, go to Steam>Play Games>*rightclick*HL2>Properties>Set Launch Options and type '-dxlevel 8.1' into the box.

That could be to overheating, it running fine, then slowing down drastically like you pointed out, a whopping 20 fps decrease, is it maybe a laptop? Getting good circulation? Try that. Also the fact that it shuts off could be faulty drivers, corrupt registry? Did you do a spyware/antivirus run?

Well. Im pretty sure Ati 9250 256 128 bit is faster than r9000 64 bit LoL.

I guess If someone can get 50 fps on high settings with a gfx 4 mx4000 Then I can probably run on high settings atleast? I think my CPU is decent.
