How do I run System Shock 2 on Windows XP - I've tried goign into proterties and changing the compatibility, but that doesn't work, any other ideas? PLEASE! I WANT TO PLAY THIS GAME! It starts up and then it says there has been an error.

I think it worked fine for me, but I found this anyway:

I believe you should be able to get XP to run it by doing the following:

1. Install Offical Patch:
http://www.3dgamers.com/dlselect/games/systemshock2/shkpatch.exe.html

2. Add The Windows XP Fix:
http://www.lanime.com/ntx/ss2fix/SS2MTFIX.EXE

3. Do this:
You will need to edit the shock.cfg file in the System Shock 2 folder on the hard drive. Open the shock.cfg file with notepad, and add the text "safe_texture_manager" on a line of its own. This change will become active when the file is saved.

If you've downloaded it from the Underdogs, you will need to install DivX 5 codecs as well, since all the FMV sequences have been compressed in that format.

How do I apply the fix?

("SHOCK2.exe" is installed at "c:\program files\system shock 2")

there was a thread a while back that had a link to tons of troubleshootings regarding getting System shock 2 running on newer systems...do a search

It would work now, but now it says that SS2 isn't compatible with my video card...

Do you get to any menus? If so try and change the graphics to Software or something similar.

It boots up, changes resolutions, then changes back resolutions, then exits and says "Your video card is not compatible with System shock 2". I've never even seen any menus yet.

Me and a friend spent hours setting up multiplayer SS2 on XP... We played through the first part of the ship, he decided he didn't like the game and we never played it again.

I downloaded the game from Underdogs, as they don't sell it anywhere I know.

I've got the Windows XP fix from some .nz site, but that makes the game require a CD. It's a different fix to the one you posted, StardogChampion, but the link to yours has been removed - it's a 404 now. If the .exe fix you posted works with the Underdogs version, and includes a no-cd patch, can you please host it so people can download it again?
