Hi there peoples!

My problem is that i can't launch hl2 or any of the mods. Steam launches no worries and the games update with no problems either. When i go to launch, the 'preparing to launch' window appears. then after a small time, closes, with nothing happening. I have previously played hl2 on this machine and am only experiencing these problems on the latest reinstall.

my specs are as follows.

OS : XP professional sp1
Processor: AMD Athlon XP 2800+ MMX 3Dnow (2.1 Ghz)
Memory : 1024 mb RAM
Page file: 2147 mb available.
DirectX ver: 9.0c
Graphics card : Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 128mb AGP 8x
Resolution: 1280 * 960 32 bit
Drivers: Nvidia 77.77 (latest 81.98 doesn't support FX 5200)

Does anyone have any clues as to why this is happening?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have the same issue, and apparently a bunch of users on the steampowered forums are too (but no one is of any help over there).

My specs have nothing in common with the threadstarter other than DirectX 9.0c. My computer is pretty bad but it meets the minimals and obviously isn't the problem here.

Drivers: Nvidia 77.77 (latest 81.98 doesn't support FX 5200)

er... I have the 81.98 driver with an FX5200, works fine.
