Hello whats a good tablet, I dont have much money and i dont have much space so im planning to just get the smallest wacom there is or should I jkust keep saving until christmas and the bigger one. The highest resolution my computer can goto 1024x768 but I might by another monitor so that may change things. Is bigger necessrialy(sp ;x) better? And whats a good wacom just for painting in Painter and Photosho.

I use an HP TC1100 tablet at work and it's absolutely wonderful. The only wire on that thing is the power cord when it's docked. It's got Tab, Enter, Up/Down, and Esc buttons on the side, so when I'm using it in genuine tablet mode in the field, I rarely have to use the on-screen keyboard or the pointer. It's got built-in Bluetooth (used extensively with a Bluespoon digital earpiece and our VoIP soft phone and to a lesser extent with a MS Elite keyboard/mouse package).

Bigger is never automatically better than "better". I have a 23" HD and anything bigger would dominate my living room (it's small). You should (in my opinion) get the biggest one that works for your setup. Tablets, especially good ones, cost money however. By money, I mean that mine cost (with the docking station and other accessories) a little short of $3000, although I expect them to be a little cheaper now.

I think he means a graphics tablet, not a Laptop/Tablet

Hey Craig, I cant find how much that would cost approximately in USD. I live in the USA, but I'll call around.

Adabiviak, yuo seem to know what youre talking about do you think this tablet would be efficient in painter/ps : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16883100015 Wacom intuos3 4x5 seems a bit small cant I just zoom in tho?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16883100013 Or this Graphire? Will i notice a big difference besides the onboard butons. Thanks a bunch

Ah! I'm with ya now. Craig, you are absolutely right. I've never used a graphics tablet like this myself, but our graphics designer uses that brand (INTUOS3 but I think the drawing space is a bit larger than the model shown) and he cranks out some pretty good stuff. He speaks very highly of it at any rate.

...and he doesn't use a Macintosh

Ya I mean the tablet like Wacom tablet sorry foir the confusion I shouldve been more clear

Well, what would a Tablet PC thread be doing in the art forum?

IM still unsure of which tablet to get will it make a big difference between Intuos 3 or a graphire?

Yes it will. Go Intuos 3.

(Geez, didn't realize thread-age. Doh!)

I have an Intous2 and I gotta say, love the thing.

But try to get allot of felt tips. I hate the standard vinyl tips and use the included felt tip (but sadly, I need to get more :()

I'm looking to buy a tablet as well, but I'm split between buying a really awful, cheap one for practically nothing... or spending all my money at once, on something really quite snazzy.

Suicide, maybe you should look into a Graphire 3 if you don't care much for tilt. It's still pressure sensitive, and it's pretty inexpensive.

That's what Sulkdodds has... and that's what I mean by "spending all of my money". I don't have a big budget, you see ;) Although That's what I'm thinking of buying.

Tell your parents you have to get one for homework, kill them if they even try to make sure.

I just got my Intuos3 6x8 a couple days ago, it's beautiful!

I've got a question for anyone whose gone from a Graphire tablet to an Intuos one.

Whats the difference? Is it big? I mean, if i am going to fork out another 150 bucks for a tablet the same size, and the only difference is 1024 pressure sensitive points compared to 512, is it worth paying for it?

Because otherwise i'm just gonna buy a Graphire 3 thats 6x8 or something larger. Anything larger than 4x5. I'm sick of 4x5.

Oh, also, is it quicker to work with a bigger tablet? Is it smoother?

must be a hack ;)

could you quickly ask him what he uses a tablet for in graphic design? Does it work with illustrator? I'm in graphics and have never seen a need for a tablet as most design is slapped together with already existing resources (images, illustrations etc) ...as an illustrator I can see how it might be helpful but not neccesary because creating original illustrations are rare for a designer
