Does anyone here know what other tactical formations are commonly used for infantry?

The only ones that I know are Column, Line Abreast, Wedge, and Echelon.

There must be more.

A brief description would be appreciated.

thanks

I am sure you could look it up on google. I do have a ranger handbook from Vietnam and that had a bunch of formations in it, even ambush plans.

there's the enfilade and defilade specialised formations, made famous but the english armies who raided france in the hundred years war.

essentially, longbowmen would be put on either side, and men-at-arms would be placed in the middle. the enemy would get forced down the middle by arrow fire and straight into the men-at-arms and billmen.

\ ___ / \ ___ / \ ___ /

that's generally how it was. longbowmen are the "\ /" and the men-at-arms are the " _ "

although i'm not sure that's the sort of formation you were looking for, heh

Ambush plans, just use Ewoks for that, while you still have a chance to run

I have looked it up on google, and I have yet to find a good source.

anyone who uses anything other than a wedge is retarded, column is for dense foliage and other terrain wherein you can't use the wedge, but seriously, the wedge

Im sure if you got the art of war from the library or just went out and bought it it would have a couple formations also.

What kind of formations are you looking for, and above all, for what country and time?

Modern Military Formations are based around enfilade defenses, flank attacks, and heavy weapons. Were you looking for something in particular?

Don't forget the phalanx! The best formation ever! hmm...you meant MODERN infantry, huh? oh well...
