TAITO corp. will release Half-Life 2 for arcade video in the summer of 2005. The selling price or the playing fee is not yet determined. Half-Life 2 is the latest product of Valve's Half-Life series for Windows FPS game. This Windows game will be released on 17 Nov. in Japan (by CyberFront corp), and on 16 Nov. in Western countries. Although the game isn't released yet, many people are attracted by its amazing visual quality. TAITO will develop this arcade video game on their original board 'Type X.' The arcade video game board 'Type X' uses Windows XP Embedded, which can apply development kits for Windows.

Based on original HL2, it will be customized to have three game modes: 'Story mode' - original singleplay mode, 'Batlle mode' - multiplayer realtime match that players can join from all over the country, and 'Mission mode' - multiplayer mission co-op battle. Communication system will be 'TATIO NESYS(Net-Entry-SYStem),' which have been running such as Battle Gear 3 and Zoid Infinity. Playing data will be stored on servers so people can play at penny arcade throughout the country.

It is planned the chassis is going to have a cockpit-style sheet, a wide-screen and 5.1ch surround which is giving a presence unique to arcade. The type of a playing controller isn't determined yet.

Starting in Japan, the company consider unfolding to the whole world as Half-Life 2 has a high worldwide attention.

What would be the fun of playing HL2 singleplayer on a arcade?
Wake up mr.Freeman, and insert new coin.

Of course not. We'll be playing HL2 with the Quake 2 engine, just because the people at Taito won't notice any difference!

Edit: I wonder what VU says about this.

They say it is based on HL2. For all we know it could be as connected to the HL series as Codename gordon.

Sounds good, sounds like a arcadey version of codename gordon

Well, ok.

i can't imagine hl2 as a button-mashing-game-of-incredible-fun

Well, they make a point of mentioning that it'll be running on a version of Windows XP, so I'd assume that it must be a modified version of Source.

By the description, it sounds like a pretty cool game. I wonder if it's like those games where the third player has a different weapon in multiplayer (last one I saw was a shotgun as opposed to pistols). Two people could have the shooty weapons, one could have a manipulator...

It sound kinda cool but I guess i just don't find it that big of a deal. One: it is most likely never leaveing Japan. Two: This kind of stuff happens all the time. and Three: these kind of games don't normally turn out right. This is worthy of a tread but not worthy of counting down to the release.

lol that made me laugh :afro:

That is the most ***ing stupdist idea i have ever heard. You realise that they are going tp destroy a classic and epic masterpiece, and turn it into a stupid arcade ****ing game? Halflife is like a book-you have to be near it to read it, close to it to appreciate it. This sounds like another fricking way of cashing in on hl2.
Leave hl2 be and go destory some crap ps2 or xbox game by making it an arcade game, not hl2.

Dude, its for Japan. Its not likely to end up in your cafetaria.
plus, what do you care for someone playing it on a arcade? Its not like they immediately scrap the pc version.

they wish valve or VU wil get them to court
its mean to use others efforts and licences to earn money pfft! :D

I wnder if they would make it House of the Dead style like you playing as a resistance fighter or combine soldier, it would be rather interesting to see it done that way.

I don't really like the idea but maybe the mp part is based on some work from Valve? And not something just made up from Taito? It could mean there's a mp part after all!

man you give wishful thinking a new definition.

I'm just thinking were the crap are they gonna get the content for the mp, you know Valve is not gonna get allow them to produce any crap, not that I care much for mp.

yeah it could turn out to be a pretty cool game.. i guess its wait and see :)
this doesn't bother me as much as it seems to bother others around here.. i mean just as long as i get my PC version.. i don't really care what else they end up doing with HL2.

Just a little info...

Japan doesnt have nearly the percentage of households with PC's that American and Europe has and nearly no one has high end graphics cards, so if you want to sell a PC game over there, this is the only way to do it. Build a box and turn it into an arcade.

This wont be the first PC game to do this for JP. I worked with people who did this for SOF 1 and Tony Hawk.

As far as it being "related" to HL2, like the guy Kusa said, "Sorry for transration err if there's any (due to a lack of english skill)". So go easy on the literal translations.

I think its a goo idea, their probably just gonna use a joystick with anolog controls similiar to how people play halo on XBOX.

Co-op

This means that Half-Life 2 will probably have a co-op mode for the single (co-op!) player(s) campaign for the PC version down the road!!! Sven Co-op, all levels functional for co-op? I'm feeling it.
