I don't think they will. Bioshock 1 sold 2.2 million as of July 2008. The Orange Box sold 3 million as of November 2008. That Bioshock 2 will sell 5 million is a bit over the line. Maybe it will but I would say between 3 million and 4 million this time. I would be in shock if it beats out Episode Three, anyway I doubt that.

I would buy 5 million copies if it means we get a System Shock 3.

I very much doubt it.
If the fan reaction to what they've shown us so far is any indication, it's probably going to be less.

Friend: "Well I am going to buy it just because you get to play as a Big Daddy, I thought that's what you were gunna be in the first one"

Me: :|

Me: "Hey have you played that new game for 360 called Bioshock yet? Looks so awesome."

Friend: "Sounds ****ing gay, I bet Gears of War 2 is going to be better than it."

Me: ":|"

The Orange Box won over 100 awards and sold much more, I bet HL2 Episode Three will sell about 5 million because it's the end of the HL2 trilogy, like HL2 that is up in 8.3 million with Steam sales.

Bioshock is a good game but I don't know if it's so popular, anyway I am not gonna buy it.

8.3m with Steam Sales?

Got a link for that one? I didn't know they released the Steam Sales yet.

LOL! That sounded exactly like my cousin.

Typical 360 whores.

I paid ten bucks for Bioshock, and still feel ripped off.

I don't know where the hell they've pulled this figure from, unless they've got huge faith in their marketing. I've always been under the impression that sequels tend to sell less. There will be people who will be cautious of buying the sequel due to having unsatisfied expectations from the original, or others who didn't play the original and don't think they'll fully appreciate the sequel's plot.

Sure, there are exceptions, but a 67% increase on a game that was already a massively hyped, triple-A blockbuster title that sold plenty? Pie in the sky. They probably know it, too, this was just about their share price.

Do they mean 5 million copies on all consoles, or just PC?

Bioshock was overrated and i really don't see it selling more with a sequel that's already getting negative previews.

Totally agreed. I started playing Bioshock two weeks ago with high hopes. Well, I stopped and uninstalled it. Imho, it's just a shooter with a very atmospheric setting. Not enough for me. Overrated.

You and I both know if they make System Shock 3 it'll be a dumbed down piece of shit.

So no, instead give monies to me.

It would sell 5 million if both free system shock 1 and 2 discs comes with it.

I might consider it if they fix up the shitty pc performance, DRM and... Just generally fix up the pc version this time.

Unless they are bundling the original game in with the sequel (ala Riddick: Dark Athena) I'm not seeing the game selling more units than it did before. Wishful thinking.

I thought Bioshock was overrated too until I got pretty far into it. I can see the sequel selling a little more than the first just because it has multiplayer, but it probably won't reach the 5 million mark.

No chance in hell really. Unless they did some crazy ass wizardry with it instead of just building on the same design they had going from the first game, i'm thinking it will get 2-3 million.

Also, why is the OP banned?

really? i paid £14.99 on saturday and so far its been worth it.
no where near as scary as my friend made it out to be.
pussy.
but im enjoying it alot.

It was Bar.Calhoun making an alternative account after being banned on his first (from tonnes of infractions). Silly boy.

I'm confused about the major Bioshock hate? I loved the game, it was really fun with all the weapons / plasmid variation. The water effects were sensual and it felt like a really solid shooter. Opinions...changed?

^ you forget to mention the atmosphere. i love rapture, its an awesome game world.

I didn't mind Bioshock at all aside from the Pipe Dreams-style hacking.
Absolutely hated that shit.

I enjoyed Bioshock. I'm also a complete wuss when it comes to games so it scared me shitless.

I was expecting something more like SS1/SS2, which were a nice blend between adventure and shooter. In Bioshock, the shooter side is dominant. OK, I don't like shooters, so I am biased, but in the end I liked Half-Life 2 much more.

My opinion of it has definitely changed. I liked it when it first came out... played straight through it.

I tried to play it again recently and thought it was a piece of shit. Sucks as shooter and sucks as an RPG.

There's no way I'll pay full price for the second one.

Yeah, I agree with Glenny for once, I really liked Bioshock (at least the first half).

I agree with everyone who said they played through Bioshock just for the setting and story alone.

Every since the first game, I feel like I've seen everything there is to see and do within Rapture, and that all the loose ends in the story has already been tied up, making a return trip to Rapture seemingly pointless imo.

Bioshock's charm is almost directly tied to Rapture however, making a sequel outside of Rapture extremely tough to conceive. To be honest, the game really isn't a good candidate for a sequel, just like some good single movies should be left alone before it's name is tainted with countless sequels.

It doesn't help matters much either that Bioshock 2 appears to use the same engine and graphics as part 1. This, combined with what I said above, just makes it all feel more like an expansion rather than a true sequel. Furthermore, it's gameplay wasn't nearly as compelling as the atmosphere and story, and this so-called sequel seems to be more focused on it's mediocre gameplay rather than the story that no longer exists since part 1. I mean shit, what could possibly be left?! All the primary antagonists of Rapture are history and all the little sisters supposedly have already been saved.

These devs need a new IP. Quit trying to milk Bioshock to death already. Let it R.I.P before it's torn to pieces by mediocrity.

Rather than a sequel, they should have spent more time making part 1 a homerun, "knock-you-pants" off kind of game it should have been rather than only just "good".

Bioshock had setting, it had story, and it had charisma - but as a game I think it fell short; the gameplay was tired and it was mundane, and it's just not acceptable. Playing it is a chore. I think, of course, the most important thing to consider is that it set itself up as the so-called 'spiritual successor' to System Shock 2 - there is one of the best games ever made, and quite simply, though Bioshock certainly jumped toward that benchmark, it fell short - so short, in fact, that it plummeted into a dark, deep abyss of mediocrity.

Which is why a sequel will never work unless it's core gameplay gets a major overhaul. Plasmids and Big Daddies or not.

Bioshock was fine. This forum is frackin' stupid.

Good luck with the sequel though, because it looks like it will need it.

You're asterisking retarded!

I think most people here think the game was indeed "fine" as in "mediocre." Not bad, but nothing great.

EDIT: Oh, you edited your post. Now my joke fails. You're a real jerk Absinthe.

I'm just trying to restrain posts. :(

I don't think Bioshock was mediocre. Despite its faults, overall I thought it was pretty damn good. I was entertained and engaged through the whole thing (well, at least until the last chunk of the game).

The sequel does look quite naff though.
