Okay this has been going on for a while now, and it's really starting to bug me. My computer sometimes will not allow task manager to open. No matter if I do ctrl-alt-del or if I type taskman into the run bar. Simply doesn't come up. Same thing happens when I try to shut down or restart or log off... nothing happens.

My computer doesn't have any viruses, trojans, or adware on it. What can I do? Is there any way to solve this problem? It drives me nuts. It's not always like this, but it happens more frequently now than I'd like.

/poke raziaar with a stick.

I'm sure you are right about the virus situation, but its really fustrating when people are like "I know I haven't got any viruses, it MUST be something else, your just making excuses" while they sit there with a copy of norton AV 2003 which dosen't run with windows, and hasn't been updated in 3 years.

I know that sounds like a random bitch, but theres a difference between "I haven't got any viruses" and "I've run up to date AV, anti spy and adware".

(Sorry about that, I get this from customers all the time, and I'm not allowed to tell then to strap thier monitors to thier legs and jump in the sea :))

Anyway. Google mother ****er ;)

Well... I'd be VERY surprised if I have viruses, Trojans, or spyware.

I don't just say that willy nilly. I'm very up to date with the times and my computer receives all the pampering it can get. I have a battery of methods I use to conquer those three evils, and while I'm sure something might slip through once in a while... I haven't seen any problems in my constant checking in the past couple years. I frequently use programs such as ad-aware, hijackthis, and many more to aid me in my quest.

Thanks though man. I've done searches before and haven't found anything to help me. I went to the kellys korner page right now and we'll see if their repair task manager registry entry will work.

I had the ability to open Task Manager removed once by a trojan. There is an actual registry entry somewhere which is like a binary choice; Task Manager - '1'/'0' or similar. However, if you're sure that you're not infected then this is unlikely to be the problem.

Yeah, I know mate, I was tired and venting, hazards of tech support, sorry about that. :)
