A new post over at the TF2 Blog reveals a new pack containing 8 items as a tie-in with the upcoming game Total War: Shogun 2 will be released on the 15th. All the items in this pack were made by community member LaroLaro, who some may recognize as the maker of the Tankbuster Polycount winner. The items can be obtained in 3 ways:
1. Pre-order Total War: Shogun 2 from Steam and get all eight items free. (You: "THAT'S INCREDIBLE!")[br]
2. Buy all eight items in Team Fortress 2's Mann Co. Store. (You: "I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! I WON'T BELIEVE IT!")[br]
3. Collect all eight items through in-game item drops or crafting. (You: "SOMEONE CALL AN AMBULANCE! I'M HAVING A HEART ATTACK! FROM JOY!")[br]

What in the name of flying **** has happened to this game?

Man, wasn't this game like 4gbs when it was first released?
And now it's about 16gbs.

Item details plox.
  • Katana for Demo and Solly - On kill health restored to 100% but once you draw the sword you cannot put it away until you get a kill. Also instant-kills anyone else with the katana out.
  • Banner for Soldier (the bugle is replaced by a seashell) - When banner is active nearby teammates heal as they do damage to enemies.
  • Some sort of fan thingy for the Scout - When you hit an enemy they are "marked for death". Enemies who are marked for death take minicrits. Only one enemy at a time can be marked. Does almost no damage.
  • Kunai for Spy - -65 HP, steal enemy's health on backstab (overheals you to a max of 180)
 
Am I the only one who actually likes all of these new updates? It keeps the game interesting.
 
I don't play TF2 anymore (kind of fell out of the loop after some time away from the game, when additional weapons got introduced etc.), but it seems to me that from an artistically attractive and consistent game this thing turned to a bizarro-fest.
 
They have really gone too far. Bye bye TF2, you were a clean, streamlined game. It's been fun for a while.
 
I read this as "shotgun update" at first, and thought that this would be a really boring update. If I still played this game I'd say it sounds fun.

Indeed. The only thing that I've really been pissed about was the lack of kill icons (fixed almost completely), LODs (currently being fixed in waves) and the Rift items being exclusive to pre-orders for a month, which they have not repeated with these items.

I am very happy with the continued updates and I have no problem with the promotional items. I think the last three promos have been really cool looking and have come complete with kill icons and LODs. Valve have learned from past mistakes on those issues.

Also, I like the sound of the katana and kunai.

All that said, It do think Valve should add a clientside option to disable cosmetics (or even the ability to blacklist specific things) and a serverside option to disable unlockable weapons that automatically adds a tag saying so to the server.

Edit: I also have a problem with the Equalizer still being overpowered as shit. Remove the damn speed bonus Valve! Also some weapons are very underpowered.
