A new update just released for TF2 Beta.[br]

Changes/Additions
  • Optimized sound system

Bug fixes
  • Removed background map due to incompatibilities
  • Fixed a Direct3d device restore problem causing crash and/or black screen
  • Fixed Windows Vista crash bug
  • Fixed achievement manager crash
  • Fixed occasional sniper zoom crash
Restart Steam to download the new update.

Yup, saw this. Nothing that pertains to me at least.

Well actually it does, sorta. The main menu screen is different with added sound. That's about it though.

Well now thats better... before this update had to run it in windowed mode with directx 8.1 and I still then got the full freeze when I stepped outside on any map.. Now I can play in full screen and no freezing! now off to a server!

Still can't get fullscreen...grrrr...I guess I should update my vid drivers, eh? :)

Did this update change the taunts too? I've only played the sniper since the update, and all of his taunts are different.

I think that they have also added more Announcer stuff, she says things like, "Ooh that smarts" which I haven't heard before.

Hopefully I can run it on Windows 2000 now. It always minimized itself while loading and when re-opening it, the entire screen was black except the mouse cursor, which still made sounds when mousing over the places where menu items should be. Then, when exiting, an error would come up.

All work and no TF2 makes Qhartb a dull boy.

That map background was a pain, it would make loading up TF2 much longer. Now its gone (I thought it was removed yesterday?) I can play within a minute :D

I think that Direct3D device thing is what was causing all the crashes for me. Hopefully they're gone now.

Loading that map at every TF2 load was getting really annoying. It just took ages. Glad it's sorted now.

Anyone else having huge graphical anomalities after this patch? I'm seeing these psychedelic lines every where :/

Me too. :(

Random vertices stick out of players and the map. :/

Setting shadow details from high to low seems to reduce the effect. Still anoying as hell :/

Could you post pictures of these graphical anomalities ?

We've gotten two patch updates in less than a week...there's a reason it's called beta. I still don't get the "Valve-in-head-of-Valve-guy" video but that's my only problem.

The only issue I have right now is when I get a message from someone on Friends, it changes the focus to that and thus kicks the game to taskbar. So all I have to do is kill the game, restart it and it works fine afterwards though. I've talked to someone from Valve about it, it's known which I'm glad. So far the past 2 updates have been very good. I'm suprised we got an update yesterday they don't usually release on that day. :) Props to Valve for speedy patching!

I got the same problem after I enabled 2xMSAA in video options. I also got occasional crashes and freezes. Disabling MSAA returned the video and stopped the crashes :(

i got TF2 for christmas and when i play it, it goes to main menu, it says loading in bottom Right corner then after 5-10seconds of that it exits and says. "This Game has a minimum requirement of DirectX 8.0 to run properly"and i have the best DirectX for windows xp. plz help with some solid solution... thank you

*facepalms*

I'll leave the rest to you, hl2.net.

Okay, actually, just try updating everything. And what are your computer specs?

TF2 can run in DirectX 7 as far as I know.

HL2 and EP1 support DX7+, but EP2 only supports DX8+.

Specifically, the hardware DirectX level must be at least 8 to play Team Fortress 2.

They are referring to your graphics card DirextX level, it means that your graphics card is too old to play with. If you post your graphics card model we can double check this.

I really don't know about the current state of AGP graphics cards, just keep in mind that this will probably be the last upgrade you'll be able to do before needed a new motherboard, CPU, graphics card, possibly RAM, etc.
