ok which one of you made this? ...and how soon can I borrow it?

Well, it was nice knowing you. Inspired no doubt by evil scientists like Lex Luthor and super villains like Doctor Light from the same dangerous comic books that Dr. Fredric Wertham warned us about so many years ago, the world will perish in flame courtesy of Eric Jacqmain, a 19-year-old kid from Indiana. Our new overlord has created from common household items what he actually calls an R500 Solar Death Ray that "melts steel, vaporizes aluminum, boils concrete, turns dirt into lava, and obliterates any organic material in an instant" with the power of 5,000 suns.

yipee no more snow shoveling!

If this is actually real (I cant imagine a 16 year old kid taking the time to polish and lign up 5,000 mirrors in this way) it's a minature version of this project we've been working with:

http://www.sandia.gov/Renewable_Energy/solarthermal/nsttf.html

They take a bunch of large mirrors and focus the light on a small area on top of a 10 story tower. Seeing a bird fly in to the light is the coolest thing ever.

Posted this vid in the vids thread, looking forward to the bigger model.

You know, this just makes me even more determined to get a broken reverse-projection TV and rip out the Fresnel lens in it.

wonder how the shed burned.....

also I have a new goal in my life...

Destroyed in a fire? Rebuild it again you ****ing liars!

Also while you're trying to burn me alive with that thing I'll cut you apart with water and I'll cut the tank you rode in on in half with water too. WITH ****ING WATER.

I don't think it was cheap to build Raz.

It's just an old satellite dish and mirror tiles. Unwanted satellite dishes are items you can find easily and mirror tiles can't be that expensive.

That song gets stuck in your head so easily.

I'm feeling the budget was around 200 or 300 dollars, give or take. It's hard to understand just how expensive all the hardware can get until you start pricing projects like this out. The cart, the dish, the package of mirror tiles. I'd rather use a Fresnel lens from a TV, it's a lot easier to hold things stationary when they're sitting on the ground.
