In addition, each character has a catalog of 40-60 special items that players can buy if they earn enough money in their fights. We were able to try out a few maxed-out characters thanks to demonstration cards provided by Namco, and the characters look significantly different when they have these items. Naturally, these upgrades are all cosmetic -- it's not like you can take the gun off your back and start using it in a fight -- but there will be certain items players can only get if they have extremely impressive statistics, so there's a sense of pride involved in having these items for your characters.

sounds like soul callibur 2, just with no effect on the actual game.... i gave up on the tekken series as soon as they started to churn out identical sequelswith no real improvements.
