Australians fed up with phone calls from telemarketers can now add their phone numbers to a Federal Government register to stop unwanted calls.

Internet registration for the Do Not Call Register starts today, with companies banned from phoning people on the list from the end of the month.

Some groups, including charities, religious organisations and political parties will still be able to call those who have registered.

Communications Minister Helen Coonan expects Australians will want to register up to 1 million phone numbers in the first week.

You are a rapist! One of my girlfriends was GANG-RAPED!

You can do this with BT in the U.K - register your number and after about 28 days the calls stop. Which is nice, seen as they ALWAYS phone during dinner.

Way to deprive poor hard-working telemarketers of even the meanest scrap of bread to place on their meagre table for their loved ones, you shits.

Another point for the council of evil!

*drums fingers together*

That's the best news i heard all year.I subscribe today. But it is about bloody time they did it.I'm over this telemarketing crap.

There are too many exceptions for that list and it doesn't stop international call centers.
