the original review:

http://pc.ign.com/articles/114/1145332p1.html

Dead Space 2 is an amazing game. I'm going to write about its scary moments, cool kills, and how much I dig the main character's internal struggle, but Dead Space 2 is about more than this. When I beat it for the first time, I sat on the couch with my heart racing and dissected the journey I had just taken.

author of terribly written review responds to criticism:

One of the hot Reddit topics of late has been "DAE think a middle school kid reviewed Dead Space 2 for IGN?" If you missed it, I reviewed Dead Space 2 for IGN and am not in middle school. I've breezed through the 470-plus Reddit posts, and I find myself irritated. No, I'm not irritated that people are sourpusses about my review or that they don't like me; I'm upset because no one is telling me why my review sucks.

I've been here for four years, so I'm used to stuff I write being shit on by anonymous posters. The bullshit that we're paid off, that everything on the site sucks, and that I'm homosexual. That stuff doesn't get me, but telling me a review sucks and not explaining why it sucks steams my hash.

here's why it sucks:

people will get mad about anything...who gives a ****? it's not like he writes for a $5 magazine.

No one's mad. People are merely pointing at this article and going, "Hey, that's pretty terrible writing" and some people will peek over there shoulder and go, "Yeah, heh, that looks like it was written by some one in middle school." I mean, maybe loyal IGN fans are mad because the writers of their site sound like they're in middle school and rate on a 7-10 scale, but that really makes you wonder how it's taken them so many years to realize this.

I was following this yesterday on r/gaming. I don't care much for the review but the reviewer really asked for it by posting that rant about how reddit is an asshole for not telling him what was wrong with his review. He comes across as a total prick and idiot with his whole "well TODAY I learned what reddit is", presumably in an attempt to belittle and deride reddit for being insignificant compared to his big-bad position as an IGN staff writer... when in fact reddit is a more popular and heavily-trafficked site than IGN is and the writer is just a dumb **** without any talent.

It really is a poorly written review. Personally I've come to expect this from the mainstream gaming press (I hate just about everyone but PC Gamer and Rock Paper Shotgun) so it's not the kind of thing I would make a stink about, but as far as I'm concerned the reviewer forfeited the high ground when he wrote that retarded comeback post so I've kind of enjoyed watching the hivemind ream him.

IGN is supposed to represent the mainstream press in the video game industry. can you think of any other industry where the mainstream press about the industry is staffed by employees who write like middle schoolers?

All of them. Except maybe Fox News, that's preschool level.

protip: they write like that because people are stupid and won't read stuff that's too high-brow or sounds overly intellectual.

also this is a better "corrections" image... the guy who made the original is really not much more intelligent than the original author himself and this guy makes him look like the grandstanding idiot he is:

why that writing reminds me of my own?

I use words like sitting whit my heart often sometimes, isnt it poetic?

That "here's why it sucks" image seems retarded from the very beginning. He says he's "going to write about XYZ" because he isn't currently. It's not a run on sentence if it has "but" joining them. "But" is a conjunction, and stops it being a run on. He did have a list before it, but it still works.

Should I even bother to read any further?

Nope, you should just skip on to the image I posted which is some other redditor's comebacks to the "here's why it sucks" image, and he rightfully decimates the original guy.

well I will make another image where I decimate that last guy!

on topic, does it will be scary this time? havent played the first one cuz demo didnt feel scary unless you just dont like the dark

Did you guys see the Gamespot video review for DS2? No?

hehehe

You bet. He (she?) actually has a twitter with updates about coming out as a transgender or whatever.

you'd think she/he would wear less gender neutral clothing so as to draw attention to her "package". GODDAMMIT I NEED TO KNOW WHAT GENDER YOU ARE for masturbation purposes

there's always a stage where you're not quite sure in what direction a transgender person might be headed

Now this is where I criticize your criticism of Stern's thread title. A very appropriate comparison, seeing as IGN and Stern both write poorly on a pretty much nonstop basis.

also this is a better "corrections" image... the guy who made the original You should say 'the first' review, since 'the original' implies perhaps the first draft or uncorrected version of the first review. Oh, who am I kidding I bet this IGN author just wrote it and didn't even bother to do much beyond spellcheck. is really not much more intelligent than the original author himself and this guy makes him look like the grandstanding idiot he is:

Honestly the guy who reviewed the review of the review seems to be grasping at straws the entire way through and missing the point of reviewing the review, and I did not care much for the review of the review of the review.
