Ugh, yes, I know. Clearly the draconian security measures and civil rights violations of the Bush administration and that continue to this day kept and will continue to keep us all very safe. Did YOU ever think that most of this has just been an excuse to get more money/power/control at the sake of the general public? Scare tactics for profit. That's what I think at least.

The new sensors which scan people naked would not have caught the exploding underpants. Half of the new technology would not work at airports because people will find a way to counter it anyway. The only reason that this other scheme was ended at airports was that they got caught bragging about what they were doing and got caught buying materials for explosives which is almost impossible to get under the radar.

Sure i agree, but when you happen to be on that plane it really sucks.

But IMO terrorist cells are more influential these days, fighting them trough regular means, i'm not sure it would suffice. You probably have to put atleast the same effort like they are otherwise you won't keep up. But i agree that 60% of the measures taken are BS.

They probably do know, but they can hardly sit back and do nothing. They need some sort of response to show people that they're at least TRYING to do something about it.

I bet this is actually what the Terrorists want. Even if their plot didn't work a new set of security measures have been put in place which causes further inconvenience. And the government has no choice really because they must be seen as doing something. What happens if in the future another terrorist plot against a aircraft is found ? Probably more security measures which makes air travel even more inconvenient.
