Testing the mod waters

I've had an idea for a single player mod for Half-Life 2 that I currently call The Insurgents. (It's a working title) I'm kind of wary about committing myself to starting up a mod project as such things are usually cursed when I'm involved. So I thought I would toss out the premise here and see what you all think about it. Who knows? Maybe my luck will change. ;)

The current story is as follows:

Alex Bianchi led a normal life. He had a beautiful home, a loving wife and they were both expecting their first child. Life was good, but everything can turn around in an instant. That instant was an alien invasion. In only minutes Alex lost his home, his wife and their unborn child.

A year has passed since the invasion and the scattered remains of humanity have banded together to form a resistance. Alex, like many others, is out for revenge. In his quest for vengeance Alex will learn many truths. Truths that will change the world.


Yes, it's horribly clichê, but it's how I start off with the juicier parts of the story. So gimme some feedback and try to be gentle.
 
Can you map, model, texture, animate or write code? Making a mod is a lot of work. I suggest joining one before trying to start your own. There are plenty out there and they generally always need more help.
 
I can do some slight mapping, but that's it. I know that running a mod can be a lot of work, but I do have experience in running these types of projects. In any case I'm not starting this up yet. I'm merely wondering if people would be interested in a story-centric mod.

I'll be busy playing Half-Life 2 so it'll be a while before I could start such a thing.
 
Hmm...I had a story a lot like this. I added too much and it became too epic for me to even think about... :\
 
We'll the idea has a glitch... one man traying to kill all the aliens... (MASTER CHIEF [HALO] & GORDON FREEMAN) think up something in the story that's new... otherwise youre MOD wont be something new, and less people will play it. (i'm trying to be genlte :()

Remember that it's only the premise behind the game. Quite a few games and FPSes especially feature one man armies. While the premise is admittenly cliché I like to think that a few of my plot points aren't so cliché.

But perhaps I'll utilize HL2's AI system and create an AI partner that'll travel with you and fight with you. I'll have to see how HL2 handles squad partners before I make any final decision there.
 
Careful with the name, Insurgency is already a gigantic mod and The Insurgents is a little close to that.

You know that Captain Picard is not Agent 007, right? ;)
 
I will undoubtedly change the title whenever I think of something better. I was aware that my title was very similar to that of Insurgency, but for some reason I could only think of The Insurgents for a working title.

As for Captain Picard he happens to be one of Bond's descendants from one of his many flings. ;)
