No matter how hard I tried. I just plain old don't like Texas. There's plenty of things to do, but without my friends here, it just isn't fun at all. I've been here for about 2 months, and I say it's been two months too long.

I've decided to up and leave this place come the 24th of July, as in next Friday. Me best friend is flying down to drive home with me. It'll be awesome. Then I get to go home and move into his apartment and start up schooling once again.

Me girlfriend will still be down here till the 16th of August. I just can't take it anymore down here.

Even though I've complained enough to Raz about him not wanting to see me and making fun of him, I'm sorry and maybe next time I come down, we can meet!

Anyway, to the few HL2.netters of the Dallas/Fort Worth area in Texas, maybe I'll see you in a bit.

I'm going back to PA! Woohoo!! :D :D :D

I realize this doesn't have much of a topic involved, but here I'll add one to the end of this post.

Has anyone else ever been somewhere and just plain hated the **** out of it even though it really is a great place? I've never been more homesick in me life.

Posts ahoy!

Did you ever go outside? Big Bend National/State Park and Hueco Tanks are just three of them.

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/ <-This doesn't even begin to count the number of lakes you could go boating on.

**** man, are you one of the pasty-faced weaklings who never actually does something if it doesn't involve driving? I live in DFW which is the nexus of '****-nothing to do in TX' and I still have plenty.

I live in DFW too.

And outside? At this time of year? You've got to be kidding--you'd die from the radiation exposure from the sun alone!

Pansies. I live out by Longview, went paintballing all morning and had a blast. TX rocks. If you don't have any friends, then go out and make them.

No shit I went outside. I worked at the Galleria, I went to this gigantic park over in Plano I think it was. Can't really recall the name. I've been to a few things.

Also, I don't make friends easily. It's not that I don't want to, it's just hard for me to make a friend. Me coworkers are alright, but they're all completely different people than me friends at home so it just sets me off. It's extremely weird and such, but I just can't hang out with them outside of work like I do me friends at home.

Anyway, it's been alright down here. I just don't like it much.

Yeah, what the hell? Either your ego is big as **** or you are Irish as ****.

Here is my advice: stop making friends and make lovers.

I don't think I helped. Sorry, bro. Don't mess with Texas.

I was messing with you. :O

You think Texas sucks? Boy, you ain't seen nothin till you've lived in Louisiana. I've been here for nearly a year. Your two months in Dallas would be like visiting a god damn amusement park on Mars for me.

Concurrence.

Stop saying me instead of my.

What is your problem with me saying 'me'? How would I have a big ego by saying 'me'? That doesn't even make sense.

Dunno what the hell Virus is talking about, but it was kind of annoying me.

The only 1 good thing about Texas is propane and propane accessories.

Don't know where me got that from, but me kept thinking, 'me lucky charms!'

Seriously Shamrock, you need to throw a party. But invite only women. Don't tell them that until they all show up. This never works.

Or just get drunk and roam the streets. This is a good idea.

I'd rather live in DFW than St. Louis. This is the nations capitol of no shit to do. Not unless you want to drive 50 miles to six flags, which sucks anyway.

Why would you ever want to move back to New England? It just rained here for a solid 2 months. I wanted to move to TX but it's way too risky to just go there with no job. They got tons of welding jobs there though. :(

Going to Austin in 2 weeks. I was there last August too. Not a bad place, too bad I'll be there for work and school is still out so the bars will be empty during the week.

Agreed, Texas does indeed suck, and Louisiana sucks more. Especially north Louisiana. Man, I'm so glad I'm not there anymore.

Austin is awesome.

Houston sucks (although there are things to do... or at least people think there are. In 18+ years I haven't found anything that fun to do here unless you like shopping). Houston's air quality is so bad that I have allergies here. I also used to get sick at least once a year when I lived in Houston. Then I moved to Austin for college, and never got sick.

I've never been to Dallas but I've heard that place is pretty boring. People make fun of it sometimes.

Austin is awesome, but IMHO only by comparison because the rest of Texas sucks so much. In reality, Austin is just like any other hipster infected quasi-metro area on either coast, and its awesomeness is greatly diminished by the fact that while you're there, YOU'RE STILL IN TEXAS. This means that if you don't live in Austin, you have to travel through Texas in order to get to it. Anyone who has ever driven in Texas knows how shitty that is. If you DO live in Austin, well... YOU STILL LIVE IN TEXAS.

I have two friends who live outside DFW (one in Wylie, the other I can't remember). Both of them come to NC for university and absolutely loathe going back to Texas over the summer.

When Im in Austin I will probably have some time to drive around. So since you guys know so much about Austin what's fun to do over there? I will be staying downtown and I already know about 6th street from when I was there last year but since thats dead this time of the year I'm looking for something else to occupy my time. Suggestions? I was thinking of driving down to San Antonio since its only an hour and a half away.

All of Austin is awesome. Just wander the streets and eventually you'll find something.

...make sure you carry some kind of weapon.

I once went to Houston to check out Rice University. It is a daunting task just getting from point A to point B, either by car or foot. The city seems like it just sprawled out of nothingness with no kind of coherent planning.

That's what I did last year and it really wasnt that fun. The town was dead, that probably has something to do with the fact that I am there on the weekdays, not the weekends.

That's exactly how it happened, how did you discover our secret?!

Yeah, it's a really big city. I would never try to get around Houston by foot, and I only know one person who used the bus. Pretty much required to have a car here. I felt like I knew the Austin layout a little better (although Austin has some weird freeway designs).

As for stuff to do in Austin -- I suddenly realized there's not really a LOT to do :p. If you like hiking, I'd recommend McKinley Falls or Wild Basin. People also like to go to Mount Bonnell although there's nothing there besides a view of the city and river. If you like concerts, check out this list. If you don't like either.... go to San Antonio. Although that mostly just has the Alamo and the Riverwalk, which is basically a bunch of shops along a (man-made?) canal.

By the way, watch out for drive-by Prius pellet-gun shootings. And get some barbecue while you're at it. Rudy's is good (not to be confused with Ruby's which I've never tried) and a lot of people like Salt Lick.

I live in Texas in the Irving area. Working down over at Fort Worth. Do you really want to talk about a place with nothing to do? Try Arlington. It's freaking ridiculous, there is absolutely nothing to do there.

But there's stuff to do in Dallas. Go to Deep Ellum if you want to go to some clubs, or downtown dallas and walk around. Erm, downtown Ft. Worth is pretty nice too, although rather small if you compare it to a lot of other downtown areas.

I mean, unless you're living in NY or a big city or something, there's never really "something to do" unless you go out and do it. Friends help, if you took the time to make some new ones rather than pine for your old friends.

So summary: Go make some new friends instead of whining about your old friends being gone. Or move back, that's another solution, but you'll probably realize that your friends will all (or most) end up leaving your hometown eventually.
