where the hell do you people find your politicians? and who on earth would even vote for him?

"The Amarillo Globe News is reporting that Republican gubernatorial candidate Star Locke wants to scrap Texas' current property tax system. Instead, Locke would institute new taxes on abortion providers, soft drinks, and violent video games to fund the state's government. Locke, a rancher and builder from Corpus Christi, favors a 50% tax on violent games, as well as a $10,000 tax per abortion and a 10% levy on sweetened soft drinks.

The candidate told the Globe News he would create a 10-member panel to determine which games are violent. Taxes would then be levied against game publishers. The same board would also decide whether video game ads portrayed violence."

who gives him the right to say what people can do with their bodies or with their leisure time? you americans need to stand up to people like this before they become the norm not the exception. The game tax is bad but the abortion tax is just absolutely rediculous ..who will pay for mothers who need to terminate their pregnancy because of health risks? why should they be penalized because fundamentalist crazuies such as this guy feel they have a right to decide what other people do? somebody needs to kick some sense into this guy

Ok well seeing as how i would label myself as a moderate conservitive, this is just plain rediculous. This is the type of guy that would lead his followers to mass suicide. What a nut.

if you're not having fun you're definitely going to heaven :E

It wouldn't be a bad idea if it were say 10% or so...but 50%? That is too much.

I agree with the other 2 however.

Voters and the first amendment do.

(by the way I completely agree with you on this topic)

I guess you're right in the sense that ultimately it's voters who give him liscense to say or do what he wants ...had he been a politician in canada his career would be long over

guys just buy your games online and have them shipped to you, its cheaper then buying them in the retail stores.

more and more people are becoming pro life, so I wouldn't be suprised if some sort of tax was placed on abortion clinics.

maybe in the south but not from where I'm from ..or in the majority of the civilized world

Wow. Talk about conservative. This guy is scary--and not just his name!

Hopefully even in Texas we have enough sane people to make sure this kind of platform can never been stood upon again!

WTF!? 50% game tax

thats 60 -70 bucks for non collector's edition. People will stop buying games and pirate them even more

10,000 per abortion?! as much as i don't like abortions, this is ridiculous. No doubt there are going to be women who cannot afford an abortion resorting to coat hangers in backalleys.

10% on soft drinks?! as if sugar water wasn't expensive enough.

He is not a true conservative. He is very conservative socially but he does not practice fiscal conservatism, the backbone of American conservatives. Social conservatism (depending on personal beliefs of each person) should always be the secondary objective, after fiscal issues.

Anyway it won't pass. Even if he got elected. Just cause someone gets elected doesn't mean all the things they said during campaigning automatically are in. It means he can introduce it and watch it get completely destroyed in the legislature.

Those retards, maybe if you tax junkfood ur obese children will lose a couple, get off they're lasy asses and go outside.

Yea videogames are they're only problem.

Actually soda was listed in it. But it is way out of line to tax that. Any unnecessary taxation is rediculous.

I must admit, I'd probably put a tax on junk food being served in schools, and use that to subsidize fresh fruit and vegetables (in schools only that is).

oh well, you know politicians that are from texas... INSANE ****ERS!

As bad as the videogame tax is, the $10,000 abortion tax worries me FAR more. That's really, really awful.

And personally, fiscal conservatism doesn't bother me much at all. Social conservatism, on the other hand... :frown:

i'm generaly against abortion, but what should a couple do if their child would have health problems before birth? or the mother would die if she gives birth?10,000 tax, if is supposed to be, should be when abortion is done when not needed to be.
