the Texas Republican Party has released its 2010 party platform. And the gays have at least the equivalent of a chapter dedicated to them.

But consider this work of literature a tragedy. That's because the 2010 GOP platform in Texas literally supports laws that criminalize sodomy, and also suggests that straight people who support same-sex marriage should be penalized with jail time.

"We oppose the legalization of sodomy. We demand that Congress exercise its authority granted by the U.S. constitution to withhold jurisdiction from the federal courts from cases involving sodomy," the GOP platform reads. Meaning that even though the U.S. Supreme Court overturned sodomy laws last decade (ironically in a case that stemmed from Texas), Texas Republicans would like the state to have the power to criminalize LGBT folks for having sex.

"We support legislation that would make it a felony to issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple and for any civil official to perform a marriage ceremony for such," reads the GOP platform.

"We believe that the practice of homosexuality tears at the fabric of society, contributes to the breakdown of the family unit, and leads to the spread of dangerous, communicable diseases," the platform reads.

and leads to the spread of dangerous, communicable diseases

But only if you have sex with other homosexuals.

Oh wait, it's the GOP we're talking about, they do have sex with other homosexuals.

I guess those midle aged republican senators that are allways caught in homosexual acts will have to leave?

Off to prison for being a progressive. See you everybody.

It upsets me that I have been reduced to living here. I also found the "protecting innocent human life" pretty gross.

That's sad they don't realize or many people not just gays they piss off with shit like this.

Utterly awful, upsetting and most of all, terrifying.

I'm simply lost for words. What else can be said? Clearly the lines have been drawn and we must stand where we stand.

Gays are a surefire way to rile up the base both at the state and national level, so it makes sense that with this being an election year the GOP would turn to their tried and true scape goat. I mean take a look at 2004, those gay marriage ballot initiatives in key states most likely turned the tide in Bush's favor. Nothing quite like sodomy and gay marriage to get your disturbingly backwards and repressed base all hot and bothered.

I'm very disappointed in those Texas politicians not waking up and realizing that we live in the next century, where such outdated thinking will see a large backlash. Unfortunately, It's not only limited to Texas. Over here (especially in rural areas) Gay Marriage is unthinkable and few support gay rights. And it isn't only Republicans that are like this. I hear plenty of Homosexual bashing from those who consider themselves Democrats as well.

Normally I don't delve too much into the so called "Homosexual Controversy" since it serves as too much of a distraction in political landscape (along with "Family Values" and Abortion topics) to keep from talking about this nation's other problems that these bone headed politics can't seen to fix despite their mountains of promises. However, I will say this about the situation. Homosexuals in the U.S. , whether anyone likes it or not, are American citizens and thus they *DESERVE* all the civil rights and liberties that are granted to Americans. To take away these fundamental rights away from Americans just for their preference of a life partner is not only unamerican but also treason. Why can't they see this? I've read and heard enough about the dark days of racial segregation, we don't need a repeat of that era. Besides, two things to also keep in mind about Homosexual rights. First, if everyone isn't given equal right, IMHO society can't work and evolve efficiently. Also, the rise in homosexual behavior has been believed to be a safty mechanism placed on by nature to keep the human population from increasing dramatically further. Some are already arguing that 6.6 Billion Humans may be a bit too many humans. But would you believe that many here think that Homosexual urges are not by nature but by the "Deceptions" of Satan on people? Believe it or not, this is what some people here have told me.

So these Texas Republicans seek to institute a Christian equivalent of Sharia law(of sorts) eh?

Not surprising.

Oh hey remember the last time this happened?

gay people give straight guys more chances, why the hell would you penalize them for this I have no idea. Also I fully support the homosexual agenda, they don't bother me at all any more. unless they're screwing right in front of me when I'm trying to eat my Subway, I'm alright with whatever they do behind closed doors

Hitler mingled with alot of Homos it was only after he got elected they had crack downs.

If he still mingled with homos after the crackdowns too, then it really is a perfect analogy.

You know, for a while before Obama was elected, I wondered who Jon Stewart would make fun of once he won. Could Obama provide as much comedy gold? But then it turned out the right just went totally batshit insane.

Man this is just nuts.

Obama's just making Steweat angry what with his cracking-down-on-whistleblowers-let's-do-the-opposite-of-what-I-promised ways, but the Republics are just ****ing bugnuts.

Texas GOP is full of closet self-hating gays, simle as that.

If sodomy laws are being able to be passed, I think it's seriously time to tear up your Constitution and write a new one. Most countries have a protection against this sort of nonsense, we'll soon find out if the US has too.

It's also extremely ironic, in a sad way, that these are the same people who are opposed to "big government". They don't want the government to help the poor, educate the children or cure the sick, but they want the government to imprison people for having sex. ****ing hypocrites, they make me sick.

Yeah, this really is ridiculous. For as opposed as they are of government and regulations interfering with their lives, they seem to have no problem with forcing their own Christian beliefs and dogma into every issue from medicine to education and our personal lives. That document read like satire.

Yeah, Texas is a shithole, along with much of right America.
