Text smudged together

I just got a new patch for a game I haven't played in a while(Natural Selection). I started it up and the text is all smudged together and is very hard to read. I checked the video settings and nothing appeared to be wrong. I am not sure if it was the patch...I haven't heard any complaints about it and I didn't play the game before the patch...well anytime in the last year at least. I also checked my monitor settings and they are fine but it only happens in this game.

Anybody have any clue how to fix this?

I'd think it was your resolution but apparently not.

Could just be low res textures. I've not played but it's a hl1 mod - it's entirely possible. Or is this hud text?

Its fixed. I had it set to DirectX and had to change it to OpenGL. Weird bug...

That's not a bug that's hardware pixel interpolation. The texture isn't any higher resolution, it's just pixelated in OpenGL so you can see it better.

I guess higher resolution would have solved it too?
