Texturing a Model

I am completely new to 3ds Max 7, but I have some experience mapping in Hammer. I am importing a model which I recieved from here. It is a simple desk. I want to texture the desk so I can export it to the .smd file that I can then make into a .mdl so I can use it in my maps.

I am guessing I will have to use the UVW method, but I am looking for some tutorials in how to do so. Also, is it possible to export an untextured model to Hammer? I tried to do so, but I get errors when I use my .qc file to make the .mdl(because there are no textures).

Thanks,

www.3dbuzz.com if you look under the unreal technonogy section of the VTM's there is a sceres of VTMs on modeling a weapon and in that there is a nice VTM on unwraping. Thats how i learnt and he made it very easy.

This guy is very good at creating models in Max, so try his simple tutorial.

Here

... or how about trying the tutorials that come with Max ? that seems the most logical option.
