Texturing... models & props

if I model a model in 3Dmax, and i do the UVW mapping... must i put the texture on in 3Dmax, in the materials window with the spheres, and can i import bump-maps in the material window ?. Or do you put the texture on with some codes in an other program in a later stage. " PLEAS HILP ME !!! "
 
Each texture to be used on the model should be a sub-material in 3D Studio
 
ooh ok, thanks. and uvw maps, should a model have multiple uvw maps ?
