I am new, but that is not why I am here...

My CPU is kinda old, but I got some money to spend to upgrade !

Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.4GHz
1.25GB RAM
nVidia Geforce4 MX 440 AGP8x (integrated)

I was thinking of getting nVidia 7800
+ a new processor, which I know I need one because mine doesnt support SSE3 or 4

Input on best choices for me?

everything is fine except the video card. so go for the 7800gs in agp

I think the video is the only thing really holding you back from playing tf2. For any worthwhile upgrade to the cpu, you'd also have to upgrade your mother board, ram... video card. A whole new system basically.

So, the SSE3 CPU requirement is not a must?

I just need a video card that supports Shaders 2.0+?

no sse3 is just a processing method and is not needed.

all nvidia cards geforce 5 series to current series support at least shader model 2.0

all ati cards 9 series to current support shader 2.0

I'm afraid your CPU will hold you back as well.

I've got a Pentium 2,8Ghz, 6800GS and 1,5GB RAM and the game often goes below 20fps in big fights, what happens frequently. Lowering the graphical settings doesn't really help much, so I guess it's the CPU that could use replacing.

I really dont have enough money to make a new build replacing the MB, RAM, CPU...

yep, go for a 7800gs. It's an awesome card, gives me 40 fps on all games, even UT3!
However, my processor was 400mhz more than yours.
