OMG... How many things need to go wrong with my computer besides once I get my comp all up and solid... what happens?... I go to install the copy of HL2 i bought in DECEMBER!!! and it tells me while installing on CD1 "Error, HL2.CAB corrupt or missing"... this is bullshit... has anyone had this error and how can it be resolved? if it even can be?

Did you install both CSS and HL2? If not, then you're getting the infamous install error. Just install both and delete the CSS GCF when you're done if you don't want to play CSS.

Have you tried returning the CDs?

A number of people have gotten similar problems involving disk corruption, and a decent games store should accept returns. Maybe
even a replacement if you really want it.

Though if you have friends who have HL2 installed on their systems, and someone has a portable HDD, or it's easy for you to visit each other with computer in tow, you can simply copy their entire Steam directory onto your system, run it, and register the key with that copy of HL2.

Then you don't have to wait through updates and the like if they've already done all that dirty work for you

But if you do return it, just be a good person and don't keep the key.

You realise its not Valve's fault, its Vivendi who burn and package the CD's.
