How do you imagine the future announcement of the release of HL2 (whatever the date) ?
papers or TV ads ? internet happening ? a mail from gabe newell to halflife2.net ? a phone call to spitcodfry ? a message by carrier pigeon ??
or, will we just find the game box in the shelves without any prior notice...?

it will start out as a rumor on the forums, be picked up by the news sites, and the be confirmed via e-mail and press release.

I don't know if it was a good idea to move this thread to "Rumors & speculations"
The next main step of HL2 saga will be the announcement of the release of the game (I hope so!), so this issue must be soon in the core of HL2 discussion. That's why I posted it in "HL2 discussion".
Or we have to admit that until the release of the game, all discussions about HL2 are rumors or speculation...

Unless their confirmed by an official source then yeah thats what they are, atleast for the time being anyway. Besides just reading the original post again and pondering on how the announcement will be, sometime in the future. Is speculation as nobody knows how it will be right now.


I'd imagine the first sign of it going gold will probably be on the usual sites that get the news first.. Though never know, Gabe might give the exclusive to this site. Though the news will likely slip a day or so beforehand from one of the staff's idle chatting with friends, that'll be debunked as fake, then it'll be shown to be true, then the person who posted the thread about the rumor will post another thread to say "I told you so" he/she will be flamed a bit, the thread locked, then for a couple of weeks after, that poster will make comments about how his thread was locked for no reason

I'm betting that it will come about very suddenly, with (like all of the other official statements) is prepped with a flurry of rumors about some sort of release date or announcement from VALVe.

If I walked into my local EB and suddenly, there it was, all shining in its full glory, was Half-Life 2, I would first, blow my load, then grab 3 copies, run to the counter, buy them all, hire a taxi or run home! Punch who ever is using the computer at home (Or go to my closest friends house, the faster the better) and play it 24/7 until I finish it!!! I wouldnt leave my seat for anything!!

I'm guessing that won't happen. Let's be realistic. Are you prepared to sit ~10 hours in front of a your computer without moving from your chair? Pity the chair. Maybe even your friend's chair. And you friend in that case too. I can't even think of sitting that long in front of a screen. 4 hours is already a maximum for me. Of course, that's just how I feel. I'm not blaming you if you'll actually going to make the 10 but I doubt it'll happen.
