With this:

Pentium 4 - 2.6GHz
256mb RAM (I always thought I had 512, w/e)
GeForce FX 5600

What is the best possible graphics card I can buy without messing anyhting else up? (Money is no issue)

is that an agp card or a PCI card because if its PCI the highest you can go is fx5700le

On the box for the card I found: AGP 8x (533 MHz, 2.1GB/s)

So I suppose it's AGP

no offensebut i think due to his ram and cpu speed that will definately bottleneck i say take the money get a gig of ram
then upgrade your video card to probably 6600gt or 6800agp and it wont bottleneck as bad, btw bottlenecking is when your video card is limited by the other components in your computer bcause it processes information too fast whilst they are too slow

So, I should buy another gig of ram + a 6600gt?

None taken, I was just posting the fastest possible card he could buy ;)

Well, personally I'd check what type of RAM your 256 is, and then buy appropriately (up it to a gig )

I meant the best card for my computer, sry I wasn't more clear :)

No but does your PC have an AGP slot?

More RAM will make such a huge difference for the price BTW, at least 1GB for best results, many games say 512MB minimum, but even if you get an incredible video card, it won't have enough memory to hold all the high resolution textures.

yea he has a point so the box that the fx5600 says its agp? then if it is then we can help more

9700 pro / 9800 pro would be my choice for that computer.

The 9x seried from Ati are way faster than any of the geforce 5x series cards.

AGP slot, get a geforce 6800. full dx 9 and smartshader 3 support. get a another 256 stick. or 2X512 sticks for the win and bin the old stick.

Ok, I found out that I've got $1500-$1700 to spend, name everything I should buy (minus $100 for a 200GB Hard Drive) to make the ultimate gaming machine.

...i think the ps3 is a totally different story compared to the 6200 :borg:

LOL k (looks like the brainwashing of the consoles is working!)

Asus A8N-SLI nForce4 SLi Deluxe
AMD Athlon 64 4000+
2x 1024MB PC3200 DDR (TwinMos) = 2gb
2x Club3D GeForce 7900GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI-E

^ That can be bought with $1500-$1700 CDN? ^
